When one uses an insecticidal soap with Neem, does one rinse it off? The directions don't say to but I have read other places that one should.

Does it kill the insect instantly or will it be able to walk around a bit?

I ask this because when I pulled my sweet peas, I uncovered an aphid farm. I sprayed them really well but they weren't dying. The crawled everywhere, including up my arm which was a little freaky.

I am wondering if a homemade spray would be more productive.

Also, in light of this aphid farm should I compost the sweet pea plants or throw them in the garbage. I think they may be harboring other insect eggs as well.

You want to make sure to soak the aphids in the solution. Insect soap and neem work by suffocating the insects. There may be a little delay, but they should eventually die. Any that you missed or only lightly sprayed will still live. Repeat applications should be successful.

You can rinse the neem off once you have killed the insects you were targeting, or you can leave it there. Either way is fine.

Neem doesn't kill right away; it's a slow-acting, long-term killer of the insects that feed on plants.

I wouldn't try dousing them with it as a little neem goes a long way. Though neem oil certainly can suffocate an insect sprayed with it, that is not the main function of it as an insecticide... though that certainly is how insecticide soap works, so my guess would be that having the two combined may serve to suffocate some pests that might get caught in the immediate blast.

Just Google "neem oil benefits" or something like that and you should be able to find some good information about how it works.

To clarify, I was talking about the insecticidal soap not straight neem.

In order for the soap to work you must soak the insect in it. I don't know anything about the particular product in question, but I would guess that if it is mixed with neem they have taken into consideration that you are going to have to use a lot of it. I would guess that the neem is diluted to accommodate this.
