Rain, Rain Empty Rain, Rain

Is this rain going to have a negative effect on our plants and seeds? I'm new to this and I know that you can't over water (??) the soil, but is this rain too much? My cilantro leaves don't look very good, I'm thinking I need to clip them all. Any thoughts?

Rain, Rain Empty Re: Rain, Rain

Post  quiltbea 5/23/2011, 3:57 pm

Too much rain can certainly have a bad effect on gardens but I've found that the raised beds, ever without MM, counteract the worst of it. Being raised, most of the rain can drain away from the roots. We had constant late spring rainfall in 2009 where many gardens were destroyed, but I got a pretty good harvest which amazed many because it was my first year.

The rain may retard some of your growth but when the sun comes out, most things will bounce back. Maybe not everything, but most.

Herbs don't need as much rain as veggies, so if you can, cover the herbs to protect them from too much of the wet stuff.
