Hi Guys this is Mel !!!
I want to wish a Happy Spring to everyone! I wonder what is blooming at your house right now? Up here in Eden, Utah we have no color although the daffodil green is just starting to poke through. When I go down to Salt Lake City I can see Daffodils almost ready to bloom and last week when I was visting Burt from Greenland Composites in Arkansas the Daffodils had been out and were in full bloom! So what's happening in your neck of the woods? Best Wishes - Mel B

Hey Mel,
everything is in bloom here in Florida, I posted some pics in the showcase section.
I got my SFG started the other week and it's going really well.
Nice to see you on the forum, my wife is from your neck of the woods, Ogden , UT.

Hello MelB. Our daffodils are fading fast, tulips are coming on and starting to color out. The cherry and plum trees are turning the streets pink and white with fallen petals. I can see that the neighbors pear is about to burst into bloom.

Hi Mel!
Glad to 'meet' you! I'm in pretty much the same situation as you, with daffodils just starting to poke their leaves up. We're expecting more snow and rain over the next couple of days, here in Colorado Springs.
Looking forward to seeing your posts! (I have SOOOO much to learn!)

Hi Mel!
It snowed here in North Dakota today. So, no blooms, but I can just see the tips of my daffodils coming up. I can't wait.

Today was the day my crocuses burst into view. I have had one or two, but now I've got color! And the garlic I planted last fall is sprouting.
Good times are coming!

Hi Mel,
Nice to meet you. Glad to see you in the Forum. The daffodils have already bloomed and gone here in the Dallas area. Everything else is blooming - including my peach trees. Got my entire SFG planted two days ago. Looking forward to a great garden thanks to you and your SFG method!

Waahahahahaha!!! Now I know his username and I will PM him every day!!!!
Just kidding
Just as we were experiencing the warmest spring and late winter ever in Southern New Brunswick (Canada), it started to snow yesterday, makes me worry about all the buds on the maple trees. Still brown here with some snow on the ground. Wish me luck, this is my first time trying SFG.
PS: If I send you my New SFG book, would you autograph it and send it back?

WoW the man himself (if i could make a bow emoticon it would be inserted here) love the book and the concept is so simple a 5 yr old could understand it down here in florida the only way to go is raised beds but your book has made it that much simpler. when are you going to be down in this area would love to sit in on a class or symposium and learn from you.

---Hi Mel---
You gave me something a while ago with your first book and now with the computer, I can say thank you. (bow icon here) all of my years of gardening here in the city has been guided by your philosophy about gardening. With just 250 sq ft. I manage to bring good food to us with alot of pleasure and in knowing how easily it is done.

Hi Mel
Coming to you from Southwest Missouri,
We had a heck of a snow/ice storm Saturday and then today Thursday we had so much rain I was wondering about building an ark. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and warm. Just learned about SFG less than two weeks ago. Will work on making my grids tomorrow and plan to plant by the moon Tues - Thurs next week. Thanks so much for your SFG method it is awesome

Here in 7 B Spring has "busted out all over"... daffys are just past peak, crocuses long gone... Forsythia everywhere you look. Our tulip poplar was gorgeous
this year - first time in 3 years it didn't get hit by a late hard frost.
El Nino gave us a much wetter & colder winter than usual - we had 3 snows in SC! Still cooler than average but at least we're seeing sun

Wow! You guys get Spring Break early... my stepson doesn't start Spring Break until April 3rd!
I hope to see some pictures from your SFG's! I'm trying to get him into helping me with my SFG boxes, and some pix from others around his age might help him get excited about things!
Good luck!

Hello Mel
Here in Middle Tennessee the Red-buds are in bloom and the various popular landscaping trees like Cleveland and Bradford Pears are beginning to bud out. There is new growth showing on my Hydrangea plants and some ornamental grasses. My creeping thyme is taking over as a thick and green carpet. The dandelions are in bloom on the roadsides and the wild onions are springing up in the fields and yards. I think two more weeks and Spring will be in full bloom around here.

Re: Hi Guys this is Mel !!!
In N Wisconsin no tulips...grass is still brown but the snow is gone :oD! I just arrived at my parents house in N Michigan and the same here.
I just convinced my dad to build ONE box. He is a row gardener. He was helping me unpack my car and saw the bag of vermiculite and said "You're serious aren't you!"
I hate seeing my dad's love of gardening diminish because it is so hard (the "old" way). He agreed to try it this year and add one box each year after that if he likes it.
So...Thank you Mel for a wonderful method of gardening. I have two young children and ADD. I would not be able to do a traditional garden. SFG is so easy that a scatter brain like me can do it :oD.
I hope that my dad will be "converted" also. He has a bad back and I can see him doing table top SFGs some day.

Thanks for the ideas Mel.
Here in our neck of the woods (south central Kentucky) the cherry trees are blooming, March Lillies are starting to bloom.... Redwoods and Dogwoods will be soon... oh and my grapevine buds just started to open yesterday!
I really like it when the morels start growing in the woods and the turkeys start gobbling though!

Re: Hi Guys this is Mel !!!
Mel...you should have swung by. I am just north of Fayetteville in Bentonville (Home of Wal-Mart) and you could have seen the 9 boxes I had just built and arranged. At this point the weather is beautiful. Apple, Plum, Pear and Peach are in full bloom, all bulbs are up, bermuda grass is coming in...etc.
This is my first home with a flat yard. My previous home in Layton Utah was on a hill..limited room for SFG although we did get some done. Now I have a half acre all flat.

Hi, Mel!
Hello, Mel! My daughter from Sandy just missed seeing you last week when she picked up her first SFG box. After reading your new book she is so excited she is going to purchase a small box to donate to her sons' daycare center.
Here in 6b southeastern Missouri the last of the daffodils are blooming, and the redbud, wild plum, and dogwood trees are just coming into bloom. There are flower buds on the apple trees, but no blossoms yet. The pear and cherry trees have just started blooming. Day temps were in the 80's this week, but night temps are still dropping into the 30's so it seems a lot of plants are holding back for a few more days. There is a glorious crop of violets under my cypress tree. My DH says he doesn't want to mow the yard yet because it will destroy all those beautiful flowers. (uh huh.)
Have a good gardening week, everyone.

Re: Hi Guys this is Mel !!!

Hi Mel! Here north of Seattle, the tulips are out. Here is a pic from the Skagit Valley tulip fields up in Mount Vernon, WA we visited last week on spring break. Beautiful, even for row gardening, hm?
Thank you, Mel.
I sincerely want to thank you for writing that book. With its help I was able to start my own SFG last year. It amazed me that I could grow crops so easily. At my advancing age and back issues, its a thrill to be able to feed myself and my son and his family so well....with fresh and great tasting foods.
Thank you so much!
You've changed my life around.
For this year, I'm just starting with the squares and sowing seeds as well as starting seeds indoors.

My lastest squares are Mesclun, lettuce and two colors of spinach and its really early, but being small squares, I can cover them nicely with heavy row cover or vinyl plastic against the cold nites.
How's that for an early start?
