Are they talking about THE hornworm? Is this beautiful moth where they come from???

Many years ago I helped a very excellent kindergarten teacher who was also a very talented musician. He used music to calm down the students and also to have some fun. I happened to come into the room when they were singing this song. I asked to use his guitar and he picked up his banjo. We started a bluegrass intro and the kids took off singing. Talk about fun.
Camprn, now you started something that has nothing to do with this thread. Sorry for being off topic.

Maybe it's just coincidence, but the alfalfa was cut yesterday, and this morning my garden is literally buzzing with all the bees! They went right to work on the squash and cucumbers. I couldn't be happier
I am my gardens worst enemy.

We had lots of different bees & wasps this year but they are really winding down now, especially since the snow the other day.
Today this one was on the pak choi that I'm letting go to seed:
Wonder why he doesn't go home & cozy in???

What kind of hornets? Did you know that hornets are not bees, but they are kind of cool, and they hunt in the garden.donnainzone10 wrote:Yesterday, insulation contractor found a live hornet (not bat) in my attic.

I heard a ping-ping sound in a low-lit end table lamp one night, about a month ago. Turned on the higher power and saw yellow jackets in the lamp shade. Turned on more lights and followed one to the wall and looked up at the ceiling. There was a little 1/4" hole where the wall and ceiling meet. I guess the house settled(7 yrs old). They came in through the outside soffit and made their way in.. More yellow jackets were pouring into the house this was at 1a.m. Jumped right onto Google for help and learned to closed up the hole quickly with duct tape, spent the next 2 hours finding and killing 20 more throughout the house. Husband goes to put on his pajamas and one was inside and got stung for the first time in his life. So I spend the next hour watching him not knowing if he's allergic or not. He was fine just annoyed how much it swelled up and hurt.. Back at the hole in the wall, you could hear humming in the wall. Got an exterminator with the poison powder stuff who took care of it pronto. He additionally sprayed the soffits around the entire house. 24 hours later the problem was solved. Never had this experience before and its not one I want to repeat.

Re: Are you seeing bees?
lm, what a nightmare! Poor hubby!
I get stung at least twice a year and my best 'cure' is to slice off a piece of onion and rub the juice onto the sting, then hold it there for about 10 minutes. Takes away any pain. My mother then ices hers after the onion since she tends to swell up without it.

CC, onion and ice, easy enough! I'll remember that.
And Camp, you being frequently stung, now there's something I hope I never need to say about myself!

Wow LM, good thing you caught that nest when you did, so not fun getting stung by hornets.
Camprn, do you get stung regularly by bees (since you have hives) or hornets? Either way not pleasant!

Re: Are you seeing bees?
I often get stung by honey bees because I am a beekeeper, but I did get stung by a yellow jacket, which is not a bee, once this season. I prefer the sting of the honeybee...

Thanks! it looks like the 8th bee flew off while I was snapping...There were more flying in and out so quickly, it was hard to "catch" them in the lens. It's been so nice here, probably close to 80 today? would really like some rain tho, but I guess we'll limp along with this haha!
