Rain, rain, go away!!!
I have forgotten what the sun looks and feels like.
We have had rain every day since last Friday. It certainly has been a good test for the drainage of my garden, though I actually tarped my SFG on Sunday morning because there was just so much rain.
I have only one single solitary radish seedling that has decided to brave the elements. It is my beacon of sunny days to come. I hope!

Blackrose - I am both jealous and insired at the same time! Your gardens are off to a wonderful start. You may be way too out front to join our race, but you can certainly dangle the carrot (er, radish) for us!

You asked for it...

They're not very big, but I needed to thin out the grid. I'm actually not a big fan of radishes. I had a special reason for planting them though. I will post about that in my SFG update. These are French Breakfast radishes and they are quite mild in flavour. Just a hint of radish in the background. I don't know if it's because they are so small right now or this variety is just like that, but I kind of liked them. When they get bigger, I'm going to try one of those radish sandwiches that everyone seems to rave about.

Rain? You can send some our way. I haven't seen rain in awhile now!
Blackrose:I also grew these this year and liked their mild flavor. Mine never did have that radish bite to them, so I assume that is just how these are. I will plant them again in the fall because my husband will actually eat them. And they are very pretty!
congrats on your beautiful garden. I love your edible grid!

You can have the rain!! I'm sick of it to be honest. The only thing it's been good for is keeping my MM nice and moist. I haven't had to water my SFGs in over a week.
How big will these radishes get? My husband thought they were ok too. The kids on the other hand are a little pickier. My eldest spit it out. The youngest said "Mmmm" as she danced away from me.

The radishes look amazing. I understand the smaller the sweeter.
Duhh, I am praying for the wind to shift and send the rain your way. It seems to me that very often we are never satisfied with our weather no mater where we are.
Here is to a good balance of sun and rain for all!

Re: Rain, rain, go away!!!
We're on a week of rain as well and I'm not happy.
I was planning to put out my tomatoes to harden this week but can't and they are telling me they want out. They are getting so big and lush they are ready for the outdoors.
Rain, rain, go away.....to Arizona!

I had my tomatoes outside to harden off last week. Once the rain came, it cooled right down. So, I brought them back inside. The overnight temps are still not high enough to get them back out there. Maybe by the end of the week. I think my Black Sea Man is starting to get flowers too. I'm not sure if I should pinch them off or leave them.

I went away for 2 weeks and came back to HUGE french breakfast radishes. I guess I should have taken a pics but one was the size of a medium baking potato and the rest were gettin there. I decided they probably wouldn't be very good, so I shredded and composted them. I was only growing for bug control anyway as I don't care for radishes.

Radish Race update!
All right Goosegirl - I beat a path to my garden when i got home tonight. I have 8 little heads poking up looking for the sun! I think I also have a hint of romaine babies on the move.
I was going to remove my tarp tonight, but that blasted rain is pouring down again. We are supposed to see some sun tomorrow, so I pray I can get the thing off in the morning.

OntarioG - I checked again when I got home. I still have 4 radishes, but I have 2 lettuce poking up - I think they are Black Seeded Simpson. Tomorrow night the deluge is supposed to start. Mr. Weatherman is already talking flashflooding on the other side of the state - but we are supposed to miss the flooding and just get heavy rain.....

I hear ya! I am praying for a bit of sun today. I took the tarp off my SFG this morning with the hopes that my "babies" will bathing in some sunlight rather than buckets of rain!

Re: Rain, rain, go away!!!
Did the final pre-deluge check: I now have 5, yes FIVE radishes, 5 lettuce sprouts, and it looks like some of my peas are trying to poke through! I hope to get the rest of my onions in tomorrow morning between floods (supposed to have most of the rain in the evenings, if I can believe Mr. Weatherman).

Re: Rain, rain, go away!!!
The weather in Ontario has been terrible. Where did Spring go. It's either cold and wet or hot and humid.
The plants in my 'soiled' (non-SFG) garden don't look great. I don't know if they will survive. The tomatoes are a pale green colour. The plants in the SFG garden are nice and green.
Part of the problem is that I started my seeds too early (March Break) and then with the cold wet spring they were in pots too long.

I did not use MM for this garden. My only real disappointment so far is my radishes. They are too top heavy and only have a red root no actual radish. I think I waited too long before thinning them out. Everything else seems to be groing nicely. Will wait and see.
