The 10 tomato plants are doing fine. How long does it take for them to start turning red? My hubby is threatening to have fried green tomatoes!!
We are in a drought here, so everything is being watered.
Sw. potatoes and okra loving the heat.

Okay, I finally have a minute to update with pictures. The Tomato Tuesday concept is just a catchy name and it is not set in stone that you must update on Tuesday only, feel free to pop in with a question or post or pictures any day of the week. TT is just to help remember to post, or ask.

That's what we suspect, however we have never had them that big. Last year my daughter had Early Girl tomatoes in that box. We are waiting on them to turn what ever color they will turn.

There is another very similar tomato called the yellow bell. It is firmer, larger, and not as sweet as the yellow pear. I'm on my NookColor, so i cant post a link, but google should bring it right up for you.

I'm posting early for this one, I'm not sure how much time I'll have tomorrow, I hope to update with more on Tuesday, but my to-do list for this week is longer than my arm.

Found this on a couple of tomato plants, curled leaves turning black. I cut them all off, even had to top out one tomato plant, but they always grow back, ask me how I know. I sure do wish my carpenter/painter would repaint that front trailer, I know it's just for storage right now, but it sure makes Tomato Row look sad, but then it also keeps property taxes down....

Finally got some of the tomatoes in Tomato Row strung, I ran out of string.

Okay, more pictures of progress, I won't have this many next time. Also, got some funky things happening with my tomatoes, if you know what it is please share it, I'll be doing a search here on the forum in a bit, I know I've seen what it is before, and I'm a bit tired from being out there, so I am finally going to watch Lonesome Dove on netflix, before doing inside chores.

I cant remember if those are Sweet 100 or Sweet Million, I shared the
plants with my neighbor I will have to ask her if I can see the tag.
Right next to the sweet 100 is a Creole tomato, developed around 1956 at
Louisiana State University for their weather.

My tomatoes are doing pretty good, not as large as they could be. I didn't make a 1 branch bush, but will try it next year.
One thing I've learned this year, do not plant tomatos next to cucumbers! I spend lots of time pulling cuke vines out of the toms. I made 2 2 x 8 boxes, tomatoes in the front ft, and cukes in the ft by the fence.

Post  petals1973 6/21/2011, 10:51 pm

Out of my 38 tomato plants I have 34 left. The heat got to the newly rooted ones and they just didn't make it. There was one of those 4 that was going to make it but when I went to look at the name on the plant I pulled the whole thing out of the ground instead of just the tag. I just decided to put the poor thing out of its misery. Now watch it root in my compost bin. Last week I harvested a couple of yellow plum tomatoes, 1 teeny tiny green zebra and 1 small Mr. Stripey with no stripes. I have 1 pineapple tomato that should be ready soon and that one is a nice size. I have 1 boxcar willie that is still growing, several yellow plum (that my daughter keeps picking before they are ready) and 1 more Mr. Stripey but other than that I have no other tomatoes on any of my plants. I think I was pruning WAY too much. I finally stopped pruning them about 2 weeks ago and so now I seem to have 100's of blossoms on my plants. Seeing that it is hitting the upper 90's I'm afraid they may not set. Is there any hope? Do I have a slight chance that I may get some tomatoes from those blooms??? Any tricks you know of and are willing to share??

Thanks for your help!! I'm glad this forum is here.

No update this week for me, it's the last week of kid's college, and I'm slap worn out. I learned a few years back that I am no longer 20, but heck, now I'm learning I'm no longer even 30. I also have to help hubby finish the job he's on tomorrow, so no day off before my 5yo grandson is here for a week.........

Hi all,
I've a tomato question with a pic. Is a Tomato Pear a tomato like a Cherry tomato size? Here's my pic, tomatos less that 2 inches, not a vine. There might be 12 tomatoes on this plant, after all this time. I've been waiting for them to grow some, but now they seem to be getting ripe.

Yes, "The Monster" is a yellow pear, the tomatoes are not big, about 2" at the largest, but the plant is, which is why it's nick name is "The Monster".

I'll try to get some pictures of what I have left. I pulled some plants that I just did not like the look of, and after 3 weeks of no new growth, up they went. Everything that was trying to survive with new growth was left to try. I meant to get an update together yesterday, but just ran out of time. I also planted a few suckers, good thing too, the kids (goats) ate my Amish Paste plants, and 2 cherry tomato plants, and cleaned all the yellow pears off of The Monster. I'm hoping to get better results from fall tomatoes, I had picked a few AR Travelers, and they are actually pretty good.

I'm headed out to de-bug the squash and I'll snap some photos of the maters.

For those wondering those 2-liter bottles are on watering stakes that I picked up at Harbor Frieght, you can get them locally or online, I bought some more the other day, they are now down to $2 for a package of 6, so grab them while you can. I now have more stakes than 2-liter bottles.

Very cool, FV. I love the way you strung your tomatoes and would so badly like to try that. My DH is not very handy with that type of thing, though, and I'm not sure I could manage it on my own.

I'm just standing by and watching to see what happens with my 'maters. Well, I'm keeping an eye out for bad bugs and just gave them a little powdered milk to see if that would help them out. We'll see.

Your garden's looking great, though. Hopefully, mine may one day look that good!

I've seen people string them while they were in buckets, or using their trelis frame recommended in Mel's new book. Just think on it and keep your eyes open here on the forum, you'll come up with something. I think camprn has some cool ideas in some of her pictures.
