Paw Paws
I keep running across the paw paw in gardening catalogs, and I'm curious. The flavor is supposed to be something like a cross between a mango and a banana, but I've never tried it. According to what I've read, the fruit goes bad too quickly for it to be a commercial product, so does anybody know how I might taste this before I invest in the two or three bushes required?

Re: Paw Paws
Perhaps a local farmer's market may have them. I have heard of them, but never lived in an area where they were commonly grown.

Re: Paw Paws
Pawpaws grow wild here in West Virginia. They are not bushes though, they're trees. The comparison of a cross between a banana and mango is fairly accurate. If the fruit is not quite mushy ripe, it has pineapple notes too.
There's a PawPaw Festival in Albany, Ohio, if you're up for a little travelling. They make all kinds of dishes and desserts with paw paws!
