Hello from West Michigan!
Found this website while trying to track down vermiculite sources. I am getting ready to do a "build-as-you-go" potato box, as well as a 4x4 raised bed. Mels Mix in the raised bed, probably mostly compost in the potato box.
We also are going to be running a 20ftx30ft traditional garden, so I will be experimenting with the raised concepts, hopefully getting away from the traditional garden next year as I do not have a rototiller and do not want to buy one. Soil is not great around our house anyways.
I am also setting up several collection points on our house for rainwater collection. If this works out well ill post about that here as well. I am trying several different products for downspout diversion.
I do also have Mel's book on order from Amazon.

Re: Hello from West Michigan!

Seems you really found the right place to stop, visit and join.
You are going to be amazed at the Mel's Mix in your 4 X 4. You just don't have to worry about how bad your native soil is, you don't have to dig, you don't have to weed. It is truly great stuff.
Hopefull next year you can convert your 20 X 30 row garden to SFG beds. You won't use all of that space and can still get great harvests in much smaller planted areas.
Please keep us posted on your progress and share pictures if you will. We love them.
Again, Welcome

Re: Hello from West Michigan!
Welcome aboard, chrisf! Looks like we have another on the verge of loving SFG!
I would love to hear as you compare and contrast the traditional garden vs the SFG. I hope you duplicate a couple of plantings for science's sake.
Poke around here and you will find regional forums with some localized info in there and plenty of specific forums for specific topics.
It's a fun place with great people. I hope to see more of you soon.
