tabasco peppers
You may want to invest in a plant, if so, this offshoot of Gurney's has them:

Google turned up several sites selling Tabasco pepper seeds, though. Gonna make some hot pepper sauce?

They are not a real big plant and are quite prolific. I'd just buy a couple from the plant place. They are not a fussy plant to grow, you should have a nice climate for them.

No and I haven't seen any around. I'm going to make some phone calls tomorrow to see if I can get my hands on some locally.

Thanks for the link and yes, I want to make pepper sauce. I love the stuff and just thought of growing the peppers myself as I sat down to dinner.

Have you had success with this plant yourself?

Before planting, cultivate beds to a depth of at least 12” and add a high-nitrogen fertilizer that includes both calcium and magnesium.
I got the above info from the website link provided by Nona. What do you think? I may have to plant these in a separate bed.

Buttaflie, do you have a Tabasco sauce recipe? I'm trying to get a couple of piri piri pepper plants going with the idea of making some piri piri sauce. Let's wish each other luck, okay? (Good wishes even as we speak heading East from this drizzly West Coast.)

Nope. I was just going to mix some vinegar, sugar, and salt with the peppers to taste in a shaker.

Tabasco peppers
Wow, way cool! thanks, I'll add it to my salsa/hot sauce section of my personal cookbook. A few years ago I grew a batch of Bulgarian carrot chilis, now those little suckers are HOT. They're supposed to be spicy with a fruity finish, but all I could taste was heat like a habanero! This year, we're sticking with medium-heat peppers, like jalapeno, Santa Fe Grande, and piri piri.

Re: Tabasco Peppers
I hope I can find tabasco plants because the site you shared sells 6 at a time and I really only want two. I don't want the other four to go to waste. Maybe I need another box for overflow....

Re: Tabasco Peppers
How about tucking the extras into a 5-gal. bucket, with holes poked into the bottom and filled with MM? Great opportunity to paint designs on the outside of the bucket to gussy it up. Art and eats, you might say.

Re: Tabasco Peppers
This is what I would like to re-create...
Whole green Tabasco peppers packed in vinegar and salt makes a tangy, spicy topping for greens, beans, veggies, and anything that needs that spicy, vinegary zing.

Tabasco sauce
Sounds like a pickled peppers. Did you find your recipe on line or were you gifted with the recipe by a friend/family member? Seems like my former father-in-law had such a "sauce" on their table, but I was a tenderfoot from Idaho and afraid of using much of it. Thanks for sparking an almost forgotten memory.

Yes I grow tabasco most years. Don't always use them but they are beautiful red prolific peppers. You certainly are getting lots of feedback.

Do you get your seeds/transplants locally? Any suggestions where I might be able to find some?

Re: Tabasco Peppers
I make the pepper vingar with my datil peppers every year but skip the salt and sugar yep just sterlize an air tight jar pack as many peppers (still green) as I can and fill with boiling white vinegar. That's how the old timers here taught me. So good on collards and mustard greens. Make good gifts too.
If you want to use a 5 gal bucket to grow in ask at the deli dept. of your food store and they might give you one for free. That's how I got the one my datil is growing in.
