Garlic Question
I planted my Garlic in the fall and it's looking quite beautiful! I was curious as to what is was doing under ground so I pulled one up. It looked like a great big green onion and it had ants and eggs in it. I thought it was a fluke so I pulled up a second one. Still green oniony but no bugs.
When will it look like garlic?

Oh, did you pop those wee garlic plants back into the garden? Or did they go to the kitchen?
So to answer your question, probably around July. The plants will continue to grow through the spring. They will put out curly-q sprigs at the top called scapes. This is the plant trying to flower. It is suggested that the scapes be cut off to allow the plant to put more energy into the bulb. Scapes are delicious.
When the foliage begins to whither and turn brown you know that the garlic bulbs are mature. When harvested, they need to have a bit of curing time.
