Hello, name is James. Getting ready to begin first square foot garden after last frost here in Belleville, MI just 25 minutes west of Detroit and 25 minutes east of Ann Arbor. Haven't built my boxes yet, but I am super excited about getting ready to embark on this new method! It sure looks like it beats my old row gardening attempts and I'm anxious to see its result.

Hello from Belleville, MI 396615 to the SFG Forum!! You did not mention if you had a chance to take a look at The All New Square Foot Gardening book. If you have not had a chance to read it, I would encourage you to get a hold of a copy. We would be happy to help you with any questions you may have. Again, Welcome!

Hello from Belleville, MI 654548 James Hello from Belleville, MI 654548

Nice to have you join us. This square foot gardening is fantastic. It is so much easier than row gardening. You are going to love it.

Ditto to Camprn's advice about getting the book. It is worth every penny. I keep going back to it over and over. In fact, I am thinking of getting rid of all my other gardening books.

Feel free to ask questions and join in the conversations. And post pics if you can. And expect to laugh now and then as some of us who are supposed to know how to behave, have a tendency to get goofing around when our Administrator isn't looking. We don't MEAN to really, it just kind of happens.

Good to have you.

James, it's great to have you here. There are several Michiganians floating around here and our Midwest forum. Jump in there when you get time and check it out, too. It's a more localized spot for us to talk about our patch of earth, also.

Post some pics of your garden when you get it up. We love to see how things change over the course of a season.

I am not too familiar with Michigan. So, if you don't mind filling me in as we get to know each other a little better, I'd appreciate it. I need to learn the Midwest better.

Like has been said, if you haven't read the book in the banner above, definitely do so. You will pick up the fundamentals so quickly. This forum will reinforce them and provide you with more details as you ask away.

Again, it's great to have you here. I hope to see you around and active very soon.

Hello from Belleville, MI Empty Thanks for the welcome

Post  jamesindetroit on 4/22/2011, 12:58 am

Thanks for the welcome everyone, I appreciate it. I'll definitely check out the regional forums. You know, I am waiting on the original book from '81, and the all new book, to arrive in the mail. I have gotten pretty acquainted with much of the info already...but look forward to reading the books.

Heading to the scrap yard tomorrow for old wood, see if I can get a bed for free..if not..the Depot has cedar decking on sale right now... woohoo..
