Last yr. was my first. The lettuce was so good so I ordered seed to plant, Tom Thumb, Red Sails, Calmar, Some kind of green leaf. Well, it was too hot, and I kept trying, each sq. that got empty got some seeds. It finelly got cool enough to germinate, I have lettuce everywhere!

My favorite is the Tom Thumb. I think it's a bibb type, half heading, leaves crisp and tasty!

Boston Bib and Butterhead are different?

I have so much to learn. And I thought I was adventuresome salad eater!

The best way to eat arugula is to saute crimini mushrooms with chopped shallots or a med red onion, and add them warm to the bowl of greens with a handful of soft feta and a TBS of balsamic vinegar (oil optional). It softens the arugula a bit, and is the most delicious salad, especially if your cook the 'shrooms the French way (in Julia Child's first cookbook, and mentioned in Julie & Julia).

If has bolted it will be woody and bitter. Then wait until next growing season. Wait until the leaves are widening out (3/8" vs 1/4") at their stem width for better flavor.
