I have never used it, but it sounds ok. I think the only compost from Maine that I have used is the Quoddy lobster compost, which I really like.

Tried this compost? Empty Lg composter on sale TSC

Post  dawj 4/21/2011, 6:56 pm

The best compose is the one you make yourself. Tractor supply has my composter I use on sale for 129.00. Takes about 16 days to have more than enough compost for a 4x4 box for mels mix. Many people in your town will want your black gold. Just my thoughts on compost I used my compost back in 06 when i started SFG i didn't go by mels mix (5 different types of compost) I did add about 3 shovel fulls of 1 yr old cow manure to my homemade compost.

Tried this compost? Empty pallet bin

Post  cachecrashers4 4/21/2011, 9:45 pm

I made a pallet bin last week and filled it with stuff from around the house. I have a friend who owns a coffee shop so I added a bunch of buckets of grounds. I still have yet to get some manure for my compost pile, but will get some soon. I read somewhere (maybe on this forum) that urine was good for starting your compost pile so my son has been "helping" by peeing on the pile. I turned the pile for the first time this morning. It was steaming so it's off to a good start. Very Happy

I am sure it is the help from your son that has gotten it steaming! Laughing

I used it in my mix. The Maine Coast products are really good. I also bought some Jolly Gardener products, but I thought they had too much sand in the mix - not sure how that will affect my mix. I also found a shrimp & seaweed compost made by Fafard that looked pretty good.
