Hello from Senoia, GA (which is just south of Atlanta). I'm new to gardening in zone 7 and new to SFG. Until just over a year ago, I lived in zone 4 Minneapolis, MN. Now I'm learning about the extended vegetable growing season of The South!

Yesterday, I did my first attempt at Mel's Mix. I found that Vermiculite is hard to find and expensive. But I'm looking forward to planting!

I am also blogging for the first time. The blog is my gardening journal as well as communication to my mom (who is in MN) and to my homeschool co-op, which is gardening with me. We have two community gardens set up in our co-op. I think the other garden is doing row gardening. It'll be interesting to see how the gardens compare.

Thank you so much for this forum and all the wonderful information. I am in love with the All New Square Foot Gardening book! My favorite quote is this:

"You know the saying, 'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.' The world hunger problem can never be solved until we help people help themselves, step-by-step, square-by-square. Then, maybe the saying will be, 'Show a family how to Square Meter Garden, and they will feed themselves forever.' ” ~Mel Bartholomew

Glad to have you here.

I am looking forward to hearing the results comparing the harvests from row gardening and SFG. One thing I know, SFG is MUCH easier. There are start up costs, but once your Mel's Mix is completed, you just add blended compost every time you harvest a plant, then replant and go on to your next square. No more mixing Mel's Mix
(unless of course you add more garden beds and SFG is certainly addicting new to GA and to SFG! 811519 )

Again, Welcome and please keep us updated on your progress. By the way, we I love you pictures.
