MEALY BUGS!!!!!!
Arggg! my beautiful tri colored sage is infested with mealy bugs
since they are in a pot at the moment I sprayed them off with the hose two days in a row. Do any of you know a good organic control? Needless to say the pot has been moved well away from the rest of the garden.

Re: MEALY BUGS!!!!!!
I haven't encountered mealy bugs, but I just looked in my Master Gardner manual. As far as organic control it recommends frequent application of insecticidal soap or neem oil. You have to keep re-applying it until the population declines to a tolerable level.

Re: MEALY BUGS!!!!!!
That's a mess of mealybugs! The only control I have found for them is either Neem Oil or using a cotton swab soaked in alcohol to wipe them off.

Re: MEALY BUGS!!!!!!
I just finished wiping infected areas with rubbing alcohol. The infestation was far worse than I thought. Tonight is Neem oil. I don't suppose you have sprayed peppers with rubbing alcohol by any chance?

No, never tried that. Alcohol evaporates so fast that I never thought of spraying insects with it.

Re: MEALY BUGS!!!!!!
I wiped the big clumps off using rubbing alcohol. Then, last night I misted stems and leaves with a bottle to catch isolated patches. Wow, the pepper plants came through nicely!!

I use neem oil, spray , then spray again 5-7 days later.

Re: MEALY BUGS!!!!!!
This is a follow up to the mealy bug infestation in August 2021. Using a Q-tip to apply rubbing alcohol was not keeping up with the infestation. I don't know if something with more tender leaves could have survived the treatment.

8-18-21 I sprayed affected areas with rubbing alcohol. The leaves looked awful a few hours later.

8-25-21 A week later everything had recovered from the shock of the harsh treatment.
