I am thinking proactively right now because we had TONS of japanese beetles last year and would like to protect the garden from them in advance. I can't recall if cucumber beetles also fly so maybe the row covers would help with those as well. Do row covers help protect against crawling pests as well?? I saw a couple of posts that mentioned using wire hangers but didn't say how to do it. I am planning to go to one of the many resale shops in the area and find some cheap, sheer curtains to use for the cover, just not sure how to keep it over the crops. Thanks in advance!

Floating row covers are great for root crops like radishes, carrots and beets as well as leafy crops like lettuce, kale, chard and brassicas (broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower are a few)

If your plants need to be pollinated, like squash, strawberries and cucumbers, those sheers, tulle, or crop covers will keep the pollinators out. You could hand pollinate.

Just something to consider

I am sorry for the cross post, but I just got back from Joann Fabrics and supposedly their nylon tulle is going on sale for $0.75/ yd on 4/21/11.
