Chance of frost tonight in central NC
Tonight
Mostly clear. Patchy frost after midnight. Much cooler with lows in the mid 30s. North winds 5 to 10 mph just FYI

Yep it's going to be 32 degrees here in Northeast Tennessee. I hope I am ready...

WNC will see a frost as well. I've already got my babies covered up!

What are under those tarps? You might not get any freeze protection from the spaces along the sides. If it is just seeds or small plants, I'd perhaps lay it right over the top and make it relatively airtight. That way you'll also trap the heat from the daytime sun on the soil as it escapes during the night. I doubt you'll get under 35 doing it that way.
good luck ! Hope you make it through

Durham NC here - I am all covered up too, but I just checked on WRAL and it is 44F outside. Thought it was a mistake so just ran downstairs to check my thermometer and sure enough - no frost. Sunday and early next week look a bit dodgy though so I am glad I got to test drive my frost protection. I told my hubby last night that I would cry if I lost a bunch of my garden cause I was too lazy to cover up, but if I cover up and they still die, that is OK - a cost of early season planting (I have been pushing the boundries this year with it being so warm)

Well, I just checked my thermometer. I got down to 25.1° even with the hoops and plastic. I knew it was going to be a hard freeze, but I didn't expect that!
I'm just hoping and praying that my kale transplants were hardened off enough to survive it. I just transplanted them on Sunday!
How'd everyone else come out?

Oh, I hope your little ones made it through. 25 is quite shocking actually. Deffo hard feeze. I'm near Rock Hill in SC, about 30 miles south of Charlotte and you got me checking and rechecking the temps all night but we only made it down to 36 here. PHEW !
Kale is hardy though, very hardy. I had a thread called "superkale" showing pics of my unprotected and overwintered Kale but they were mature plants.
I have my fingers crossed for you

I planted out my first cabbage and cauli and brock transplants ~6 weeks ago, and right after I did that we went down to 25F - they were covered and did manage to survive and are thriving now - so given that kale seems tougher to me, I am hopeful for your littleones. I will keep my fingers crossed for you

Update: The Kale Made It!
Well, as one might expect, I checked on my little babies just as soon as I could get out there. It looks like they've made it. The largest transplant is the only one with slight damage. It has a little frost bite on the tips of the lower leaves, but the rest of the plant and the smaller transplants look perfect.
