I'm wiggin' out about the temps tonight! I've planted my SFG with cold weather plants EXCEPT for the two pepper plants. Temps are supposed to drop tonight to 31 degrees. I'm thinking about covering my pepper plants with buckets to protect them over night. Do I need to worry about the broccoli, cabbage, onions and lettuce? Thanks for your help!

Our forecast was supposed to drop to 32 last night, too. I ran out and put the plastic over the hoops just for some protection. But, I'm sure they were fine. I do, however, need to get my tomatoes and peppers back inside. I never put them in the ground. It's still 3 weeks too early for me. So, my frost was to be expected.....and I am supposed to get these lows all week long now.

Please come back, Mr. Spring. I miss you already.

Thanks! My first year with SFG. Looks like, based on the weather report, I'll be covering those peppers a few more times over the next week. I've planted peas and cukes and squash and potatos, but they are not up yet. Do I need to worry about them?

Indeed, cover your peppers! They don't like cold weather. At less than 50° they start struggling.

You are too early on the cukes and the squash. They can't germinate in cool soil. Do what you can to keep your soil warm and hope for the best. You're potatoes will probably be fine so long as the ground doesn't freeze (it probably won't).

I just couldn't wait. It was 78 degrees in Franklin. I have lots and lots of cuke and squash seeds left, but I'm hoping I don't have to replace the beans because I bought those seeds from Knoxville. We'll see. Am just hoping for the best!

If by beans you mean peas you should be fine. They are very hardy.

If you mean beans then again it's too early. They don't like temps below 60°. They might survive, but your harvest will be compromised.

Make sure you read your seed packs. If they say to sow outdoors "after all chance of frost" or any other similar phrase that means you really do need to sow them around your last frost date. These are warm weather plants. If you can't protect them from the cold they will die or become stunted and disease prone.

Just cover up everything and hope for the best, but don't sweat it. Even if you do lose some it's not the end of the world. You'll just replant at the appropriate time.

Mother nature will do what mother nature wants to do.

Here's hoping the weatherman is wrong! sunny
