Spring is coming....
and my garage and basement are flooded.
We went away for a few days to be with family members. Missed you all. I hate not having internet connections in the little hole-in-a-wall towns in the interior of BC.
While we were away, the temps. went up to normal March temps and the snow started to melt. The ground is still frozen but the snow is melting really fast and we have SO much of it. We got home to a flooded garage. Kind of aggravating but not the end of the world. We spent our days off moving things in the garage and making drainage canals to try to get at least some of the water out to the street. But the drains in the street are all frozen over and covered with huge snowbanks.
Yesterday, when he got home from work, my DH called the city to come and deal with the lake that was growing on the street in front of our house and coming up the driveway. "We are only dealing with emergencies" he was told. Three hours later when he came to pick me up from work, water had come up the driveway and was almost up to the bottom of the basement windows. The city still didn't think this was an emergency. By the time we got home from my work, we had water in the basement. By this time, the city office is closed. The answering service said they will only deal with emergencies. We finally were able to get them to call the city crew to come and deal with the problem. It took a couple of hours for them to get the drain cleared in the street out front. Now the basement is flooded too and things are a huge mess. The city is getting a bill. Yes, we have insurance, but there is still so much work to do and my grow area is all piled with stuff that we had to move to keep it dry and get at the areas where the water is coming in. All the people who live down by the river are going to be in big trouble in a couple of weeks.
Except for the flooding, it is lovely here and I can feel that spring is on the way!
We have even had some nights when it didn't go below freezing. Yessssss!!!!
Have a wonderful day all!

+1!
We're getting above freezing temps here too and I am loving it. It's so nice to go out in just a hoodie and not have to bundle the kids up! And we're finally starting to see some grass through all the snow. I'm hopeful that most of the snow will be gone in the next few days.

Oh, Hippie! As badly as I feel about my flooded garden, I am so very happy that my house is further away and our home is dry. I cannot begin to imagine your frustration! I hope things dry out for you quicky and that you didn't lose much.

Old Hippie, you must have learned your 'go with the flow' attitude at Woodstock!
Fingers crossed it doesn't get worse.

Re: Spring is coming....
LOL, Boffer. Would have loved to go to Woodstock but was not able to. We have gone to a lot of other folk festivals and it is fun to dig out the old music, pictures, etc. and reminisce.
Being adaptable and taking a bad situation and making the best of it is a way of life that has been handed down to me by my ancestors. The older I get, the more I discover that so much of what we let bother us, is just small stuff. As annoying as a flooded garage and basement are, they are a mere trifle compared to what a lot of people are having to deal with. We are safe and warm and dry. My house is a mess but at least it is not a life and death situation.
Life is good.
