Brownthumb takes a stab at gardening... Help!
This is my first attempt at planning (and planting) a garden. Please take a look and tell me what you think. The right side of the beds is the north side, (that's the way it sits in my back yard) and I will build a something for the vines. The thin row across the back for herbs are the insides of cinder-block that I have used to level my beds. Also with as late a start as I am getting what should I buy and transplant vs starting from seed? Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated as I am totally flying by the seat of my pants here!

Last year was my first try with SFG, and I think you are going to like it. There are others here from Texas who can probably give you more info about growing in your region, but the two most important things I learned last year was to get the Mel's Mix right, and to plant things at the right time. Planting a wide variety of different things means at least some of them are likely to work out well, even if some don't. For me, carrots were insanely slow producers, lettuce bolts very quickly in hot weather, tomatoes produce well, but keep a close eye out for pests on them, and on your squashes too. I grew radishes as a kid, and they seemed pretty easy, and the strawberries I'm growing this year are putting out fruit already. Tomatoes, beans, peppers, basil and eggplants were my best successes last year. Potatoes, corn, broccoli and catnip were a bust. I've always considered myself a brownthumb, too, but I love SFG.
