Re: POLL: How did you find the SFG Forum?
I posted this a few months ago: "found this Forum in Feb 2013 while searching for some forgotten veggie-growing topic. It was either through Google or YouTube. I then ordered a used ANSFG 1st Ed on eBay and a few days later I had 4 small boxes. I haven't stopped since."
Re: POLL: How did you find the SFG Forum?
I think I read his book in the 80's but after getting the second book a few years ago, I found the forum by accident on google.........

Re: POLL: How did you find the SFG Forum?
6 years ago I was in the library looking for a book my father-in-law used to get his veggies going, Alan Chadwick's French Intensive Gardening. I stumbled upon "The Square Foot Gardening" book, and realized that Mel's method was far easier than double digging beds and planting rows of veggies that I couldn't possibly consume (all those row crops ripening at that same time). I read it from cover to cover and built boxes, ordered a custom soil blend and set out to grow things in a far easier way. My only regret is that Mel hadn't published the second edition before I built 6, 18" deep boxes that took 1530 cubic feet of mix; I could have gotten away with less than 1/3 of the amount of mix, and spent 1/3 of what I had to fork out for redwood boxes. I'm still learning as I go- the biggest thing I've learned is to pay attention to Mel's Mix ingredients. I've tweaked it and replaced the peat with coconut coir and it seems to hold more precious water.

Re: POLL: How did you find the SFG Forum?
I found the Forum because it was mentioned in the Certified Instructor training.
I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle
