How did you find the SFG Forum
Mel's blog
I found this forum after a frustrating scrub of Mel's blog. I couldn't figure out where the questions and comments came from, because he mentioned a forum, but it wasn't on the site. I searched every tab on his blog and finally clicked on Contact Us, ready to send a message saying, "How the heck do you sign up and post!?" when I saw the link to this site. Mel, if you're reading this, with all due respect, that link is buried!

I found this Forum in Feb 2013 while searching for some forgotten veggie-growing topic. It was either through Google or YouTube. I then ordered a used ANSFG 1st Ed on eBay and a few days later I had 4 small boxes. I haven't stopped since.

I also purchased his book and used his method in the 80's but moved and stopped gardening altogether. Fortunately a couple of years ago I found his new book at a B&N and began gardening again.

I read the first version of the book in the early to mid-80's and loved it. When the update came out, I also bought it immediately. Then, since it's the age of the internet, I decided to see what was available on SFG on-line and found this site.

In 2010 I purchased the 2006 edition ANSFG book. Way in the back is a section called Mels Mailbox with the sfg website address. And from there it was one click over to the forum. Then one sf bed grew to 10....

Back in 2005, after years away from gardening, I became interested in row gardening again. Started digging in the back yard - discovered layers of red shale and decided that I couldn't fight the rock.
After reading about various methods of raised bed gardening. SFG seemed the best for my needs. Bought the 2006 book and built my 4'x8' boxes and was off.
Knew about the forum from on-line reading and finally joined in 2012. Family situation kept me from being somewhat active until mid 2013.

I started sf gardening in 1993 and stopped 2 years later when my first child was born. I no longer had the time to garden....I was busy building a swing set, fort, and a great big sandbox! They were great times. As they got older, I began to have more free time. So I converted the beloved sandbox into a SFG! That was in 2008, and I found this site through google (or maybe it was Yahoo back then).

The way I came across your fine website was doing research on uses for vermiculite. Found many posts about how hard it is to find, the asbestos issue from the past that is still regurgitating it's ugly head and how expensive it is. Now I'm hooked and check the site everyday and enjoy all the discussions.

I bought the book after researching raised bed gardening. Once I read it, I knew there would be a bunch of people wanting to talk about SFG, so I just started googling. And oh thank God, when I got here, so much more vibrant of a community than the myfolia forums!
I think my sunflower plant can take me in a fair fight...it's taller than me, and it keeps giving me dirty looks.

Actually you found me. I had several visitors from the Square Foot Gardening site visit my blog. Someone had posted a link to my farm. I had read Mel's first book just after publication and was familiar with the square foot method, so I stopped in for a visit. Even though I "FARM" organic vegetables, there was a lot of wisdom shared that I could apply to my growing methods, and I "got" the off-beat humor, (glad to know there are others out there) so of course I had to join!

Google helped me find you. I was interested in various things about gardening and stumbled upon SFG conception. This forum came up as a result of a small research on the topic.

Google for me too. I was familiar with Mel's tv program eons ago and when I decided to learn how to grow food I remembered Square Foot Gardening, searched for it and found the forum to fill in until the book could arrive from Amazon. Been here ever since

4 - 5 years ago I purchased a pretty book on gardening, (what did I know? )..
It sat on my library shelf till one night I couldn't sleep.
Walked to the library and selected the pretty book on Square Foot Gardening.
Probably the most exhilarating and informative tech book I've read.
I started reading it in the wee hours of the morning, became so engrossed in it, I wasn't able to stop reading.
I lost an entire nights sleep, however, I then realized I never knew a thing about planting & gardening.
All I did before was to till, seed, water, and watch weeds grow..
Much different now..
SFG changed my life for the better.

Looking for equivalents of cubic ft. of soil to 5 gallon buckets
I'm creating a new raised garden bed and found a great website on how to calculate amount of soil needed. But it's talking about cubic feet and 20 quart bags...I use a 5 gallon bucket and will mix my own soil. So I needed to know how these conversions related to a 5 gallon bucket. And that's how I found this Website!! I can't wait to go exploring...it looks awesome!!
