If you are interested in mapping your garden there is a garden planner on www.gardener.com. It's a little sluggish in responding but if you are patient you will end up with a printable, savable garden plan in color. Using drag and drop technique you can lay out your grid and this planner even spaces things correctly for the SFG. After placing the vegetables you may go back with the editor and add the precise variety you planted and include other information (e.g. date) if you like. As you harvest you can edit and enter the new crop. It offers only vegetable choices at present. The developers are open to suggestions so it will surely improve over time.

Go to their this site and click on "NEW! Kitchen Garden Planner" with the tomatoes icon on othe left side of the home page www.gardeners.com

Do you have a link to a better one that is also free for use? I enjoyed that one, but there were a couple of things I would have liked to have seen on it that weren't there (like adding flowers).

we had a couple of people - old forum, so I am not sure who they were, that had extremely thorough, scientific plans they had come up with.

Gridgardener, I would be interested in any suggestions you have. I have been looking for one that allows for succession planting, because my attempt to figure that out have used up a lot of paper and several pencils!

If you know of a better free software...share. It doesn't do us much good to know there is a better one and not know where it is.

The gardeners.com garden planner is cute and fun. I like the way it automatically shows how many of each plant can go in each square foot. Although they don't always match Mel's suggestions for plant spacing. I also like the planting tips, the vegetable encyclopedia, and the pre-fab garden suggestions.I have spent a lot of time there planning and replanning my salsa garden, my salad garden, and my tomato & zucchini bed.

It's fine to criticise a free program for not being powerful enough, and the one at gardners.com is rather simplistic, but to just chime in and say "yes I have a free one that is better" but not share the URL does not help at all.

This looks very good, but the number of veggies is very limited. Do you know where we can get a planner with a more extensive list of veggies, herbs, and hopefully a few flowers?
