Update
My last update was June 2nd! It is amazing how things are growing. If you look at the below pictures and then go back a page to my June 2nd update it's incredible. The corn hadn't even sprouted in the last update!
East End of the garden. Peas are on the right, potatoes in the buckets in front.
Corn...so excited this is growing! YAY!
Cuke, peppers and Bean box...Trellis goes in soon. In the tires behind are pumpkins, and in the two buckets are fennel and dill....not growing yet.
Potato Onions and Garlic...SEE THE SCAPES?
Kohlrabi
Peas on the trellis with Walla Walla's, radishes, lettuce and shallots in front.
Peas on treiilis with lettuces, kohlrabi and green onions in front
Edamame and pole beans with some basil to the left...not a good year for basil.
Pumpkins coming up in the tires....
Tomatoes
West End of the Garden
Here you go!

Middlemamma's 2nd try: 2011 Garden
MM, I am constantly reminded what a "newbie" I am when I see such great gardens posted by others. But I love it! It gives me something to aspire to. Some of you just have such creative, imaginative and amazing ideas for your gardens, I'm very envious. Your garden is looking great and I look forward to seeing more of your updates!

Looks like those hops are about 5 - 6 feet tall. Just you wait. They will take over the world. Mine did and I started them with 4 - 6 inch root cuttings.
btw, did anyone tell you that they will come back every year and you will never, ever, ever get all the roots out of the ground? You will need to open a brewery.

Good stuff, Jennie. But, two things grabbed my attention more than the garden. 1- Your skies are beautiful up there. Such a view! 2- I spy a horseshoe court in photo #2! We are playing washers this weekend because it rained today, and I have yet to build my pit for horseshoes.

Don't be....I haven't thought of one original idea for my garden...everything you see is copied from somewhere I saw it...and my garden is NOTHING compared to so many on here. Josh and his family are creative! They have a magnificent garden...maybe someday mine will be 1/2 as good as theirs!

Yes I know they will come back every year, we are excited about that! We don't plan on trying to get rid of them...Joe is really into making his own beer, so they will get good use. His Dad and Uncle also brew their own, so we will have plenty to share.
Thanks Camp! Coming from YOU that is a HUGE compliment! You have a lovely garden!

Our sky is magnificent, being here in the panhandle I think we get some of Montana's famous Big Sky seeping over the border.
Yes Joe loves his horse shoe pits! We have never played washers...our yard is like a park in the summer, we never wanna leave home. No place is as nice as home. We have a 20 ft pool (above ground) the kids can swim in, horse shoes, ladder/bolo ball, and this other game thing I don't know what it is called but the kids and adults play it all the time. It has these little curvy plastic "mitts" on handles and you throw this plastic ball back and forth using the curvy mitt thing. Anyway everyone has a blast with that. We have about 3 pairs of them so a lot of people can play at once. Then we have 2 fire pits and a BBQ to feed everyone on. Party is always at our house. LOL

Party at your house? Don't tempt us. With all those games, home brew, and BBQ, you would never get rid of my family.

Can I play the part of the crusty ol' uncle that everyone puts up with because they're related?
(I throw a pretty good shoe)

What a lovely little farm you have there. I was wondering about the pumpkins I have heard that some people fear chemicals leaching from tires into the soil, do you line them with something?

Of course boff, anytime!
Shannon, I dont eat the pumpkins they are for carving at Halloween time. I don't plant anything in the tires we would eat.

Thanks because I was thinking tire planting was such a good idea for squash I might plant some butternuts that way, but I will follow your example and not plant edibles that way. Darn.

If I were going to plant edibles in there I would for sure line it with plastic. Tires are great free resource.

I may use them to bribe the bees. This is the first year I have planted flowers and even if the honey bees are still absent the beautiful Halicidae bees more than make up for them and since they a small and don't buzz so much they don't scare me. Yes I still have a fear of bees but it is much milder than it once was.

Middlemamma's 2nd try: 2011 Garden
Now there's a good suggestion for a Friday Rookie Topic - kohlrabi!!! I have always been intrigued by it and actually bought some seed that I hope to try for a fall garden. This would be a good time for a rundown on this strange looking veggie! As well as some recipes!
Looks great, MM!!!

Because you have gone back to the basics, middlemamma, and you know what is important.
Re: Middlemamma's 2nd try: 2011 Garden
lol! We got some a couple months ago and were all excited, so I completely understand!
Re: Middlemamma's 2nd try: 2011 Garden
Ok today was garlic harvest day in the garden!!! I ended up just picking everything that was ready. We decided that beans are so much fun again this year If Joe and I and Maddy (the 6 year old) all pick beans at the same time then we get them all on the plant because we cover the lower middle and top of the plant!!!
Here are the prizes for today's participation...
Various Peppers and the first cherry toms here. The toms range from sweet 100's, zebra cherry green and red, and red currant. The peppers are mini green belles and various hot peppers that lost labels halfway through the season and I have no clue what is what!!! BUT THEY ARE HOT HOT HOT!
Green Beans (pole): We waited too long on many of these to pick...but I don't care we will eat 'em anyway!!
BEAUTIFUL Corn!!!! I was so excited to grow corn this year...it is not supposed to grow well here at all and many people's crops failed completely with our crazy a$$ spring...but mine is beautiful and mystified all my row gardening friends who told me a million reasons MY corn wasn't going to grow/work/fill out....and funny I am the only one who has any edible ears..... Take that you SFG MM nonbelievers!
The ear EXPOSED! SEE.....ONLY A FEW KERNELS MISSING!!!!
And here are all of them!! Not huge, but super filled out and EDIBLE!!! YAY!!!!
A table full of garlic! OYE VAY....no vampires AT OUR house!
h
I was feeling kinda overwhelmed when we went out to the garden today. With my brother having been here the last couple weeks have been hectic and I have let a lot go out there...but now I feel revived and calm....just walking in and amongst my boxes does that to me. I love my SFG's!!!

Fantastic! You've come a long way baby. Especially with the garlic! LOL. What a great harvest and great looking corn. SFG all the way.
Braid the garlic and bring the extras with you everywhere you go to give away.
