Also, this may seem silly, but I'm concerned about the use of full spectrum light indoors - specifically if it causes premature or uneven fading in paint, carpet, curtains, etc, in living areas. Has anyone had a problem with this? I thought of draping the growing station with mylar while the lights are on, but don't know if this might suffocate or overheat the seedlings.

Thoughts?
Some dyes and pigments that are not treated to be light-fast can be vulnerable to ultraviolet radiation. I've done a lot of light-fast testing with leather dyes, that's how I came to be aware of this. The more blue-ish the light, and the more blue-ish the coloring agent, the more quickly the fading will occur, if the coloring agent is not treated to resist UV radiation.

The good news is, most fabric dyes, including what's in carpets and window treatments, are colored with light-fast coloring agents, so you shouldn't have to worry about any of those things. I would be more concerned about works of art or hand-crafted items.

Thanks, SR, TD, and CK!! Usually people are slightly disgusted with my predilection for scavenging.. it's really nice to have it seen in a different light! flower  But I guess gardeners see vegetable scraps ( and BB\'s happy face Seed starting station.. - Page 6 4223211841 ) as potential black gold, so I'm starting in good company. BIG hug
