Alton Brown's Parsnip Muffins and Baked English Muffins
My husband and I adore Good Eats and Alton Brown inspired my husband to start baking, which is wonderful! Here are a couple of things he's made lately...
Parsnip Muffins
English Muffins - the interesting part about these English Muffins is that they're baked. He didn't make anything beyond the English Muffins, but they are truly spectacular! We even bought eight cans of water chestnuts so that they'd be thicker, like AB recommends on the episode
Here's some pictures of his creations...

I've considered writing AB a heartfelt letter thanking him for turning my husband into a wonderful cook
My 9-year-old loves the burping sock puppets too *giggle*

Re: Alton Brown's Parsnip Muffins and Baked English Muffins
I met him (very briefly) at a signing several years ago at a Food Network even in the states...he is just as borderline cool/geeky as he is on the show.

Re: Alton Brown's Parsnip Muffins and Baked English Muffins
Sorry, trustinhart, I didn't mean to ignore your greeting. Happy New Year! Maybe this year we can all go to the Harvest Festival or something equally cool

AB fan
My hubby is an AB fan, too. His AB cookbooks duel for top space on the cookbook shelf with my Barefoot Contessa cookbooks.
We argue about biscuit recipes. I like Big Daddy's biscuits minus the sugar, while he insists on making AB's. (It's really annoying sometimes because I KNOW mine are better!)
The coolest Alton Brown recipe hubby ever made was crown roast of lamb, made from two rib racks of lamb we grew ourselves. That was a Christmas feast to remember.
Thanks for posting the link, miinva. Hubby does not care for parsnips, but maybe the AB recipe will make him reconsider.

Since I'm just beginning to grow parsnips, I'll have to try that muffin recipe.
Thanks for the info.

My favorite way to eat parsnips is just roasted with a little salt and pepper.
There's a company in England that makes crisps with them (think potato chips, but made with slices of parsnip) and I absolutely adore them...sweet and salty and peppery all at once.

What's really funny about our parsnips is that I grew some two years ago in our pre-SFG row garden. Hubby grumped and griped all summer about them taking up "valuable space" where things he likes could be growing instead. He dug them for me, but apparently he missed one. It greened up last spring at the end of the path between the beds so I just left it. It grew to a huge plant and went to seed. (They have really cool-looking umbrels, like dill.) Now hubby walks forlornly among the frozen garden looking for any remnant of life, but guess what is the only thing that appears to be living amidst the frozen tundra? Yep. That crazy parsnip nestled in its straw mulch just keeps on being green. I think it is mocking him on purpose. (I plan to leave it there forever.)

I wish we could get those here in Virginia! I guess I'll have to make my own

RT 11 Chips in Mount Jackson, VA, makes the most wonderful mixed vegetable chips, including parsnip. Unfortunately, they are currently taking an extended break from producing mixed veggie chips, hope they start up again soon. They still make yukon gold, sweet potato and other "potato" chips.
If you live close to them, they also offer a free viewing of their frying operation but you need to call them and make sure they are frying that day.

Thank you, Furbalsmom! I had no idea someone on this side of the pond was making parsnip chips

Re: Alton Brown's Parsnip Muffins and Baked English Muffins
We made a batch of parsnip muffins tonight and my son begged for a third
If you didn't know there were parsnips in them you wouldn't guess it! They're moist and wonderful and I encouragle you to try them, Ander. If he doesn't see you make them I bet he'll be fooled
My son actually wants me to make these instead of cupcakes for his classroom on his birthday!
