Hello everyone! My name is Marina. I am 28. I had my own garden for a while now, but I just bought a book on SFG...and fell complitely in love with it. It is terriffic! Now, we all know how hard gardening can be. I used to spend hours a day weeding and watering my enormous garden. Overturning the soil in spring is a nightmare pale ! But now if this method really works, I can even make up space for a bench in my garden. I had no clue that you can grow plants like that. The growing season is over, but I am ready to build my first box right now. I can't wait for spring to plant more vegetables and flowers. I just bought little green house for seedlings this summer and installed rain water system for 220 gallons. With the size of my garden sometimes the saved water was not enough to water all the plants, but if I only could deminish the garden it would work out just fine. I already started a compost pile from all the tree leaves. It should be ready by the spring time.
Thank you for a great book, Mat! You change peoples lives one garden at a time! Now I have only one dellema- what to do with all the cultivators and shovels

Welcome! I know exactly what you mean. I have always wanted a garden, but remeber my parents always doing so much work for very little to show for it. When I read the SFG book I didn't believe how easy it said it would be, but it is! I wish you lots of luck and a speedy spring!

Marinal:

Yes, it is that easy! Mary and I found the method just over 2 years ago and are expanding all the time as we continue to find just how easy the ALL NEW Square Foot Gardening is. We even built two new 4X4 boxes today!

God Bless and WELCOME, Ward and Mary.

Hello from Pittsburgh, pa! Empty Welcome

Hi Marina,

Welcome. I'm new here, too. My Husband actually bought the book. I was sort of doubtful, but agreed to give it a try. We got 2 4x4s built and planted just in the knick of time for fall.

I love the fact that I don't have to pull weeds. We've already built (DH did) another bed and more are to come.

We're really looking forward to spring planting.

You will love it here. Everyone is so helpful and we've learned so much here.

Hello from Pittsburgh, pa! Empty Welcome

Welcome, Marinal.

This was my first year of SFG. We gardened for many years row-style but never again. Over the summer we converted our entire garden to several SFG boxes filled with Mel's Mix , and some raised beds of amended soil which we plant in the style of Mel's original SFG book. (I'd be happy to convert the whole garden to the new-style boxes, but hubby likes the raised beds for larger crops such as corn, okra, sweet potatoes, and watermelons.) We still have room for a couple more boxes which we plan on finishing in spring.

One of our daughters purchased a ready-made SFG set and loved growing her first garden on her own with her family. Our other daughter said she would like her father to build her a SFG box for Christmas. He also built two small boxes for his mother and she really enjoys them.

I think you're going to love SFG.

glad you\'re here

Welcome! This was my first year to SFG after 40+ years row gardening. It was amazing & I'll never go back to rows.

Welcome from a fellow yinzer!

Also my first year SFGing here in Pittsburgh. Had some wonderful ups (zuccs/squash, tomatoes, lettuce) and downs (broccoli, cauliflower, corn). You've come to the right place for advice and a place to find a warm shoulder to cry on when you need it!
