first frost

I think we are going to get our first frost tonight. I am still waiting on my potatoes and carrots. They are in the ground, so how much of a freeze can they take? Potato cuttings were planted at the beginning of Sept. Carrot seeds planted Aug 22nd.

My guess is you have a several weeks left to leave them in. We have been having nights in the 20s & 30s for the past month. The potatoes I took up last week. The carrots are still in the ground and growing. The soil here will not freeze for a few weeks yet. I will take up the parsnips and carrots before then.

Frost actually makes carrots sweeter, from what I've read Smile

I think there are a few crops that are that way, although I don't know what the others are.
