Warning - I goofed please read.
Howdy Folks:
In the post on the word game I used the equal sign (=) where it should not have been.
Ice Plant does not equal Turmeric and should not be used as such. Please forgive my goof and remember do not subsitute Ice Plant in any form for Turmeric.
God Bless, Ward.

have no idea what ice plant is, but i do like using turmeric. has medicinal uses, too, not just flavor in cooking.
and it's a pretty yellow color, to boot.

Have you used turmeric for flavor? I find it to be slightly bitter. I use it for coloring, mostly in challah (I'm too cheap to spring for saffron
), curries, and pickles.

mostly for color but also in indian dishes.
saffron is not too expensive if you can find a local amish shop that sells spice.
just an idea. i get most every spice from a local shop in central ohio and it's always very reasonable.
ibuy my vanilla beans from coop though as i can get a MUCH better deal that way, though. and that reminds me, i need to shake up my vanilla extract again.

I get most of my herbs/spices from Penzeys these days. I think I'd have to trek to PA to find a good Amish shop. But you can get a great big sack of turmeric in a local Indian shop very cheaply. I keep mine in the freezer, along with the asafoetida. (Pee-yewwww!!!! I keep the latter double-bagged.)
Edit: Here's a description of asafoetida.
