Froze first greens of the season today
We have been picking a few greens from our fall planting, but the Tendergreens were getting really big, and they are forecasting rain tomorrow (I hope, I hope) so I decided to pick the entire greens patch today. I got a lot of Tendergreens, a fair amount of mustard greens, and a few Red Kale leaves that were large enough to harvest.
I just finished putting two quart bags of mixed greens in the freezer, and I have a mess cooking on the stove for tonight's supper. Add a pan of cornbread, some sliced onions, and a can of pinto beans to the table, and hubby will think he's in food heaven tonight.
No store-bought greens can compare to growing your own.

Re: Froze first greens of the season today
HOORAY for you Megan! I too am going to be doing more of that this weekend. I think I have gotten probably 10 quarts of cooked kale this season from 6 plants, and they are still going strong. I will absolutely plant more kale next year.
Overachieving kale
Wow, Camp. That seems like a lot of kale from six plants. I hope my greens keep producing as well. My Vates kale didn't come up, so I'm picking my red or Russian kale and adding it to the mixed greens. Last night's were some of the best greens I've ever cooked.
Oh, BTW, I'm LeAnn, not Megan. She's the smart one.

LOL! I agree that I am me, but I'm not so sure about the second part.
I'm jealous of both of your greens!

oh dear...
Well, any way, the trick is nitrogen feeds the plant for greater foliage, thus my greens and the BS get an occasional boost of dried blood sprinkled around in the garden bed
What kind of kale?
Not to worry about the identity mix-up. I considered it a huge compliment. I remember a Saturday night chat when I confused Chopper with Chocolatepop.
What kind of kale do you grow? I'm growing collard greens but they aren't large enough to pick yet.
