My dog ate the organic fertilizer!

My dog ate the organic fertilizer!
OK, this year I've battled the neighbourhood cats who think the raised beds are deluxe potty boxes. I've battled more spiders, insects, bugs and such as I've never seen before. The cuke beetles took over most of my squash and cukes, and at present the hoppers are eating everything in sight. Including one taking a bite out of me the other day when I tried to move it off a plant.
The only critter to behave himself has been the dog.... until now.
A couple of days ago while at Dollar General I noticed their organic pellitized fertilizer on sale -- 70% off the already marked price of 50% off. Ended up being 97 cents a bag. So I purchased five. Got around yesterday to putting it up -- on the lower shelf in the garden shed. This morning, I saw something on the front lawn. Turned out to be one bag of fertilizer torn open and partially eaten. Sigh.
Will nothing behave itself around here?!?!?!?

Can you buy one of those large economy-sized bags of dried hot peppers and crunch them up in your compost??
Re: My dog ate the organic fertilizer!
Awe poor Belfry ! I feel your frustration ! here are some hugs and kisses to make it better ! xxoo ! You do have some narly bugs there ! I can relate with the cat box issue! have nets over mine! once I found a plant at Wal-Mart that said cat and rabbit proof, it was called stinky coleus take care not to get on skin, and boy was it ever! smelt just like skunk but worked really well, have'nt found it since, I used to take the leaves (with gloves) and distribute them .
As for the dog , we once had to park when staying with people in the drivway behind the fence where the dog was and it started chewing on anything it could on the car so we drizziled dish soap on where it was chewing and no more problems! I know sometimes things seem to gang up on you ! but fight the good fight Belfry and take no prisoners! my money is on you !

I buy the industrial restaurant size container of red pepper and sprinkle it over everything.. works on all animals except birds. They apparently can't taste the heat.

I've used red pepper before in the garden beds, but do better with wire cages over the beds until the plants get large enough not to be damaged. The fertilizer that was dognabbed was still in the bags. But I discovered why he grabbed them -- the ingredients listed whole fish and seabird guano as the primary ingredients. What self-respecting dog could resist those?

Perhaps it's a blessing that he ate it. I'm a little surprised he didn't have a field day rolling in it!
