and it's not Popeye's. Hey everyone. I'm finally getting around to giving my square foot gardens a go once more. I tried years ago with alot of hard work and fairly good results....................until Rita, Ike and Gustav stepped in and did some reconfiguring.

I decided to relocate new ones afterwards in an area that was somewhat protected in a corner but failed to consider that neighbors won't always care for their landscape and had their chicken pen trees and ginormous weeds branch out over my fence and my square foot beds. It became a breeding ground for rats, opossum, coyotes and cotton mouth snakes. I don't play well with any of those so I gave up. I refuse to carry my pink camo Mosburg while gardening.

Well, since they haven't paid a penny of the mortgage and haven't bothered to maintain the weeds they've got to go, it's my land. This Cajun has to have fresh herbs and veggies and playing in the dirt simply improves my overall health and attitude.

Menopausal and armed I literally cut my way through the overgrown paths and got my sq. ft. beds out of that corner. I did lose 4 of them as they fell apart when moving due to being rotted. I was able to save 1- 2x12 bed, 2-2x10 beds and 1-3x3 bed. I moved them to a newly fenced area closer to the house and away from all trees & wooden areas.

Wish me luck! I'm looking forward to learning alot here from those of you who are experienced in our unique tropical climate environment.

Welcome, Ejagno! glad you\'re here

Glad to hear you survived the hurricanes. I'd love to hear more about your new set-up and what you have planned. I can't imagine trying to garden battling those kinds of critters, yipes.

LOL! Gotta love it! I'll bet that was what Helen Reddy meant in her song "I Am Woman". If you need any help, just call. I fit in the same category AND have won prizes in shooting competitions. Cajun in a box Icon_twisted
