Good vegetables for hot weather?
So I'm growing some cool weather vegetables right now like radishes. Living out in the desert here I'm trying to figure out stuff to grow in the hot weather here this summer. I know Peppers seem to do well in hot weather. Any other vegetables that do good?

Maters if you water em, oh and okra, melons/water melons too. At least those are my "hot weather" selections.

Agree on the okra, peppers, and watermelons. Also squash and cucumbers. They produce like crazy. I've had good success with corn here, but only if watered well (and not in a sfg... did it in rows in my alley).

When we start getting in the 90's and 100's here I plan to water the garden everyday. When it hits the real high heats in the triple digits I was thinking some sort of sprinkler system that waters twice a day could be good but I dont know what it would take to set that up.

You could rig something up using soaker hoses and a battery operated timer. All are available at Lowes, Home Depot, & Walmart. Would be inexpensive and get the job done. I live in the Dallas area so I know what it's like growing veggies in 100+ degree heat. And it's not a "dry heat" either.

My friend has one of those drip systems like you get at Lowe's and has it set up on a timer. It does a decent job, but up here our water is so hard that the tips tend to clog up rather quickly so he has to replace them often. Still trying to decide what I'm going to do when I leave town for a week in August with 100+ temps.

I don't use an honest-to-goodness drip irrigation system, just plain 'ol 1/2" soaker hose. My guess is that you'll have less chance of clogging since the entire surface of the hose is porous. Surely the whole thing wouldn't clog?!
