Saw this in one of my garden magazines and thought I'd pass it along.

According to the April 2010 issue of Garden Gate: "Pantheon pole bean - New to North America, it's been a big hit in the United Kingdom because the vines produce so many unusually large and tender beans."

Available from Thompson & Morgan who state:
"High yields of stringless, flat and juicy pods - up to 1 inch wide and 10 inches long - with plenty of flavor. The vigorous plant habit and slow seed development within the pods of Runner Bean Pantheon result in a prolonged picking season. White flowers."

You can find the seed here:

I love the Garden Gate magazine. I let my subsc. lapse. May just have to renew soon.

Thanks for the bean info, Tim.

Any guideline to how many pole beans to plant per square? I have never tried pole beans before.

I use this as a guideline:

Here are
examples of what can be planted in each square foot:
16 carrots or radishes, onion (or 9)

9 onions, beets, peas, garlic, spinach
4 lettuce, chard, marigolds, or kohlrabi, strawberries, bush beans,
1 tomato, pepper, eggplant, broccoli, cabbage, or corn, cabbage, celery, potato
1 squash, cucumber, or melon per 2 sq.ft. (or 3ft space – zucchini)

1 per square
foot: plants that are thinned or planted 12 inches apart.

4 per square
foot: plants that are thinned or planted 6 inches apart.

9 per square
foot: plants that are thinned or planted 4 inches apart.

16 per
square foot: plants that are thinned or planted 3 inches apart.
