up and running!
My kits finally came from the SFG site (not impressed by the way...only sent one weed mat for 2 kits and one of the boards had to be sawed in order for it to fit into the other one). Anyway, my boxes are together, filled with Mel's mix and as of this evening fall vegetable seeds - lettuce, swiss chard, sugar snap peas, carrots, onions. Waiting for broccoli and collard green plants to be available at the garden stores.
With my helpers, I even got the deer netting up as well this weekend. That is what I call teamwork! I made the deer fence bigger than what I actually needed b/c I could only find 100ft of netting, and I might add more beds if these first 2 turn out ok.
Anyway, just wanted to share some updated pics...hoping for something to germinate in a few weeks!

Lookin' good! You're thinking ahead by making room for next years new boxes
I bet your peas will be sticking their heads out in about 8 days.

Boffer,
Do I need to cover the seeds until they sprout? I am remembering something like this from the book.

Re: up and running!
You might have to cover them if you have critter or bird problems.
I cover just my peas and beans because the jay birds like them until the plants are 2-3 inches tall. They don't bother anything else.

Re: up and running!
Wow, really neat and orderly, pattipan! I love it. Ours is on a slope about same as yours. We had to tier some landscaping timbers but it wasn't too bad.
Re: up and running!
I don't know about neat and orderly, the picture is small!
You should see the spaghetti squash now, nothing but vine, squash and and maybe a dozen leaves. Despite spraying with Mildew Cure and Neem, the powdery mildew got ahead of us. There are 18 spaghetti squash on the left-hand trellis and 6 BonBon (buttercup) squash on the right. Hope they live until harvest! You're supposed to wait until the stems look slightly corky, but if they start dropping, I'm picking them anyway!
We love our SFG! And where it's located we get a lot folks stopping by to ask about it. Everyone wants to know what's on those trellises!

Re: up and running!

I replied to wrong thread! Took me too long to notice and now it's too late to delete. Ah well. I think I go have a bowl of ice cream to clear the head...

Re: up and running!
pattipan,
I am glad you responded to this thread (even if it was by accident). I got to show the hubbie pics of what can actually grow in a square foot garden. So, thanks for that!
And, at our house everything slopes down towards the Northwest. I am hoping the raised beds help with this. We have done a lot in the back with the sloping and the pool water drainage.

Re: up and running!
Here's mine, as of a few weeks ago. The back bed with the tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers and chard etc is almost entirely hidden.
