My SFG has produced some veggies (4 yellow zukes, 3 cukes, a few tomatoes), but not in the quantities I was hoping for or expecting.

I believe I overplanted one of my 4x4 beds, and perhaps that's why the production has been minimal. My zukes, cukes, and squash plants are ENORMOUS, but they lack veggies.

Had a lot of luck with gypsy peppers, cubanelles and jalapenos, but not much growth with any of the bell peppers.

I am a bit frustrated. Perhaps it's the record heat we are having.

What varieties of bell peppers are you growing? I have grown peppers for 35 years, and some of the bells in particular just plain don't bear a whole lot. It may be a matter of climate -- the same bell pepper may bear profusely in, say, southern California, but not in South Carolina. So the pepper gets a reputation for being a really great variety, but when you try to grow it, you scratch your head and wonder what you've done wrong. California Wonder peppers are at the top of my list for this. I have four very healthy California Wonder plants (seeds were given to me by a friend; rest assured I'd never have bought them) from which I have harvested exactly one pepper thus far. There are a few more coming along, but this pales in comparison to the dozen+ peppers I've gotten from my Rainbow and Sweet Banana plants, with many more on the way. So it may be the pepper that's responsible for your not getting much of a harvest.

I'm not sure what type my bell peppers are, but I agree on the banana peppers. I'm getting huge and plentiful banana peppers, jalapenos and gypsy sweet peppers. Lots of them and they are looking great.

I have 1 green bell pepper that's growing now. About the size of a ping pong ball. My orange and yellow bell pepper plants are growing slightly taller (been planted for 2 months!) and no veggies.

No worries, but I'd like to get more of a harvest. Been working hard on the SFG this year, battling gray fungus and japanese beetles.

I think that the mel's mix does some strange things to certain plants, based on the ratio of compost(s). That's my theory. I have finally grown some carrot greenery on my carrot tops, that should have appeared two months ago. I planted in mid April!!!! There are NO carrots under there that I can tell....tiny root systems. The bed is watered exactly the same as the other two. I got lush peas....my lima beans sprouted in like a couple days....the chard in that same bed was in stasus for weeks and weeks and weeks....now, it's kinda bolting. I am however getting harvest of peppers of all varieties (I have like 6 types or something weird) and my eggplant was delicious....I am mystified by the variety of plant problems that can come up.
