Hello fellow gardeninig addicts OMG!!!!!.... I have a tomato!!! 61949

We are so excited here. We have our first tomato on the vine. It's a big Beefstake, about 1 inch around. LOL I know... Kinda corny to be so excited, but we also have 2 yellow squash, 1 zucchini, 1 cucumber and 1 jalapeno. I picked the jalapeno this morning, must have been too early. It was VERY bitter and no heat. We tried row gardening about 10 years and NEVER had this much success. We are having SO MUCH FUN. We put in (2) 2-year old seedless Concord grape vines on Sunday. They never flinched...never wilted, we'll hopefully have grapes next year We even have 2 huge cantaloupe plants that volunteered out of the compost heap. I put them in a container and they are climbing on anything they can get too. I love reading the forum and learn something everythime I'm here.
Continue fun and success to all.

Mine is a Siltz but I called it a teardrop in my blog.

Gorgeous cabbages. That first tomato grows SO slowly - and then you are overwhelmed! I found a Barbie sized pepper and am beside myself. I also - despite checking the plants EVERY DAY - found a giant green bean. They are like zucchini. One day they are flowers the next day you have the zucchini that ate Manhattan.

OMG!!!!!.... I have a tomato!!! Empty Frist Tomato

Post  WardinWake 6/26/2010, 7:35 am

Howdy Folks:

Mary and I just came in from the garden. We had a ceremonial picking of our first tomato. We also pulled a few onions, picked a basket of strawberries and talked to the bumble bee that was pollinating the squash. Should have squash ready to pick in 3 days. The Cabbage is forming heads as is the cauliflower which are recovering from a bug attack. The potatoes can be harvested, but, we will wait until fall as we have planted beans in the same bed. The taters grow down and the beans grow up.

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

I have my first tomato too and I'm so excited! Right now it's about the size of a large cherry tomato. I also have 4 more teeny tiny ones starting to grow. The flowers just dropped and if you look inside you can just see the tiny tomato starting out.

I was also very excited to find an eggplant the other day! The flower died off and I thought it hadn't pollinated, but I figured I would leave it there just in case. I'm glad I did!

What kind of tomato Blackrose?? I am always looking for possible tomato types for not too tomato friendly PNW, and Ontario doesn't seem like it would be ripe tomato central.

It's an Early Girl tomato. My one and only tomato plant this year. I definitely want to get some heirlooms of some sort next year.

Anyone with cabbages......Cover those cabbages with light insect barrier (row cover) and you'll find them insect free. I'm doing that now and no bugs yet and cabbages today are large and lovely.

These were my cabbages on June 12th when I peeked under the row cover. The variety is Super Red 80.

I, too, am happy to report green tomatoes.

LavenderDebs...You need to get Oregon Spring tomatoes from your nearby TerritorialSeeds.com in Oregon. They developed this early tomato. You can transplant outdoors a month before last frost. I planted mine a little later, but they are doing well in my Maine climate in Zone 5a.
These are my first tomatoes of the season. They are determinate plants so they should produce all about the same time. I have lots of small tomatoes all over my 3 plants and lots more blossoms.

I have an Oregon Spring. It has blossoms but no tomatoes yet. The PNW is not known for tomatoes, this year has been worse than most. I'm loving what you have Bea!

On a more upbeat (though mellow) note, my first lavender is almost ready. I'll bide my time waiting for tomatoes with lavender-lemonade and lavender-wild blackberry jam.

I tried to grow lavender twice last year and they never grew.
You're lucky. I wanted to make my own lavender tea. I love my teas.

Oooh, I'm jealous. CanSas is in Canada and has tomtoes,
If they are only green tomtotoes, that's ok, but if they are red and ripe I'm envious.
