New to Forum and saying "Hello"
Hello everyone! Nice to find a place that is actually regional, so helpful. So a few things about myself: Charlotte, NC is where I'm at (Zone 7), I have a smaller backyard and SFG has allowed me to have garden's again that are smaller and easier to handle, yet better growing.
I have two 3x3 self-watering raised beds and 3 self-watering 1x1 containers (a little bigger, but whose going to measure it). I have utilized the companion planting for my raised beds and it has helped deter some minor bugs away.
In one 3x3 I have 8 tomato plants and 1 marigold
In the other I have pole beans, bush beans, 3 pepper plants, 3 different potatoes, and 1 marigold (romaine lettuce already harvested once, and a few blondie peas that are now gone)
In two of the 1x1's I have 1 tomato plant each
In the last 1x1 I have a melon vine
I have already picked 2 tomatoes, and over a dozen cherry tomatoes, a decent haul of string beans (bush), which are now getting ready to do their last small haul. The pole beans (florida speckled butter) have their first pods and are exploding with vines. The pepper plants (two sweet banana peppers, one mariachi pepper) all have peppers on them. The potato plants were put in late so some rotted and had to be dug up, but a few are getting ready to explode. I have already harvested one HUGE head of romaine that had started to bolt, but luckily we were able to salvage about half and remove the bitterness, and the peas didn't do to well with the transplant at first, when they finally started to take off the heat set in and they were all but doomed, what I did get was tasty though.
I'm about to have a tomato explosion for sure, I'll be picking at least 1 daily now for sure (if not more), the melons are looking fabulous! I have 2 that are about the size of a potato and one more catching up. I'm not new to gardening but this is my first huge gardening project, I have a green thumb that works on most things except house plants (have one that you want dead, I'm your girl
). I may be newer to the SFG system personally, but I have used a similar system (well my dad did, I was to little to care what it was, I just liked the stuff coming out of it).
I can post all the information that I have gathered for growing things if people wish. I have a blog in the works that I'm planning to post my information on. Either way, I hope I can help and also gather some knowledge!
