Hello Guest!
Welcome to the official Square Foot Gardening Forum.
There's lots to learn here by reading as a guest. However, if you become a member (it's free, ad free and spam-free) you'll have access to our large vermiculite databases, our seed exchange spreadsheets, Mel's Mix calculator, and many more members' pictures in the Gallery. Enjoy.

OK, please be patient with me but what is the Portal for? I have looked at it and I don't get it. What is its purpose? Why would I want to use it?

I'm still trying to figure out how to use it too! Meaning: what can I put on the portal page that adds meaningful content to the forum. study

The software developers set it up almost as a default second home page/index page. It is a page to easily add widgets that aren't of value on the index page but are interesting nonetheless, or to add blocks of custom HTML. I like looking at the world map of forum members logged in. Some forums use the portal as a splash page-which I find to be obnoxious.

I could get rid of it, or change the default name of it. One thing I would like to commit that page to is a showcase slide show of members' pictures. But to be feasible, the selections need to be auto-generated and displayed. I haven't found a way yet to make that happen within the constraints of a forumotion forum.

So.....it's just there!

Oh... OK. That is a totally fine answer. I just thought I was missing something. Too bad you can't auto generate for the portal.
