Excel spreadsheet to calculate dates
I have a one-window spreadsheet in Excel that calculates planting/emerge/harvest dates. If someone can tell me how to do it, I would be happy to share the file.

I hope someone can help you with posting the file. That sounds like it would be very handy to have.

I can get an FTP account...
The FTP account will allow you to upload the file and then any one with access can then down load it... I'll get back to you in a few with the FTP access information. This will work for now, maybe the webmaster can come up with something like this for permanent use on the forum?

Okay, you have to use Internet Explorer for this to work easily.
Go to ftp://sfgftp:sfg575@www.photofanatic.net/
You will then be able to drag your document onto the blank page for it to upload. Then any one can go to the same ftp url listed above, right click and choose 'save to file' and download it to their computer.
I'll look forward to seeing it! I've been wanting something like this to use with my garden and sounds like your spreadsheet is exactly what I need.
Thanks!

You could set up a free account here:
http://www.mediafire.com/
The free account allows you to upload up to 200MB. I uploaded this .pdf (Adobe Reader) file just now and used the link option in this forum to post it here. Uploading to your account at mediafile.com is similar to the way we upload photos here in the forum.

JINX -- I tried your link but it didn't connect. Is there more info? I do use IE.
PATTI -- Can I send a file to that site that could be downloaded into Excel? I didn't try.

I just tested it again and it came right up when using IE. IE is NOT my default browser though, so I am coping the ftp url and pasting into my IE address bar then when I hit Enter it goes right to it...It should come up basically a blank white screen, I input a 'test' excel spread sheet and on the left it will have a list of "Other Places".

Don't use http or www before the url above, it needs to be put into the address bar exactly how it appears with out any additional characters.

Jinx I must be missing something. Whether I click on the link in your post above or copy paste the link, this is what it does:
ftp://www.photofanatic.net/
not the whole url. Then it hangs. Any other ideas/advice?

the sfgftp:sfg575 is the user name and pass word for the FTP access that should automatically log you in, but it will not display the user name and pass word in the address bar once you are there. So this is correct. You should just see the blank white webpage with the 'test' excel spread sheet I uploaded as a test and the "other places" and "tasks" bar on the left. Once you see that white page you can just drag and drop your excel spread sheet onto the white blank portion of the window. I'll log into chat here on SFG forum so I'll be available if it still doesn't work.

As soon as we figure out how to upload the spreadsheet so you can get it we'll let you all know.

You can download it at:
ftp://sfgftp:sfg575@www.photofanatic.net
Okay, we've been hashing this out a little and some can get to it with no problem and others we are working on. The URL above is FTP UN:PW and web address. You MUST you IE (sorry IE haters) so paste the above FTP URL into your IE address bar. The file is named "Garden Calc" and is in excel format. 'RIGHT CLICK' on the file and choose to "Save to folder" to download to your computer.
I'll be on chat (found at the bottom of SFG forum main page for a little while longer if any one has questions.
Thanks!!

You did it from your work computer though, so I wonder what settings are different on your home computer?
Me and boffer are working on other options...

Some one must have deleted it or cut it instead of coping it.

Re: Excel spreadsheet to calculate dates
I get the same results as boffer (using Firefox 3.6+).
Claire asked if you could upload/download Excel files from a mediaNet account, The answer is YES.
Here's one I uploaded for you to try: MelsMixCalculator.xls

Re: Excel spreadsheet to calculate dates
Just came across this and figured I would give it a shot. I am using FF 3.6.3 on a mac and I get both files coming up (test and Garden calc).
User and password worked fine also.
Thank you so much for your work and the file!
Now to go play...

Re: Excel spreadsheet to calculate dates
If you are successful in downloading the file, put in your last spring frost date and your first fall frost date, then click on the FORMAT icon and PROTECT THE SHEET.
Only the cells that need info added to complete the calcs will be available for input.
Hope it works for you and that you like it.

Re: Excel spreadsheet to calculate dates
Patti, I tried using the site you suggested. The problems I'm experiencing must be unique to my darn computer! I can get on that site and I set up a free account. When I tried to upload the file I got a message "Unable to retrieve uploader configuration file". So with problems on both sites for me I'm sure it must be my computer.
I would gladly email the file to you and have you upload it if you would do that. I guess it did finally go up on the other site but it appears that it was deleted or cut it accidentally.
The file is not such a big deal and I'm sorry for creating so much work for those who are trying to figure out why accessing a site is so troublesome. I surely appreciate it though.
After all of this, I hope those that can get the file, like it and that it works for you.

Re: Excel spreadsheet to calculate dates
Claire,
I was actually able to download your .xls file this morning from the photofanatic site. It would not work for me last night. I'm using Firefox 3.6.
Anyhoo...I have uploaded it my Mediafire account and here it is:
Claire's GardenCalc.xls

Thanks Patti, My DH worked on posting it to the web last night but then he had to redo a data base server for work that kept crashing all night and he didn't finish this for me. I felt horrible waking up this morning realizing I still didn't have a fix to post here. Any way, hoping we can get the option to upload files added to the forum so it will be available to any one at all times.

Re: Excel spreadsheet to calculate dates
Patti and Jinx -- you two are AWESOME. Patti I was able to download ! Jinx, I just think I'm a lost cause. I gotta get someone to look at this computer and clean it up! I might have a chance to try your site on another computer today -- maybe.
Thank you.
I posted some minor instructions above for using the spreadsheet but it works without those extras.
