Went out to my SFG during a lull in the rain yesterday afternoon, and I have PEA BLOSSOMS! oh, I'm so excited!

Found my cukes and watermelons have poked their heads out, too.

So far, I think the cutworms must be hiding from the rain, too...I'm nervous, because it's been pouring for the last two days, and I can't spray Bt when it's pouring down rain! So far, no more damage, though.

The 'maters are about 50cm tall (they've zoomed up!) and I can't bury the potatoes fast enough...they're going crazy! (I'm sorry, mirjam, I'd share some of their green health if I knew how!)

Glad to hear everything is growing so good at your place! And most of my potatoes are still doing fine, so you don't have to feel guilty whatsoever... happy dance, happy dance Icon_biggrin
My peas/sugarsnaps are already forming beautiful pods, I can't wait till they're big enough to harvest. And my broccoli is making heads, and I've got one little cucumber growing, it's already about 5 cm long!
Now I just have to keep the snails and slugs out of the way (just been collecting some, I think I pick about a hundred every night, but it's not like I can notice any difference... I console myself with the thought that any single one of those snails otherwise would have laid 60 eggs, so it will help in the long run)

That's one to truly not discount until you've tried it. They're cooked in butter, garlic, parsley, and wine....which makes just about anything edible!

Indeed. Especially the garlic Smile
Sadly it's nigh on impossible to get the cuttlery for a proper escargot meal here, even though canned or frozen escargot are sometimes available even in supermarkets.

jt, if it makes you feel any better, they're usually only available fresh here around the holidays, otherwise it's the freezer case for me, too!

We tend to fall back on just a toothpick for cutlery...the locals pick them up with a crust of bread to keep from burning their fingers (and the bread then soaks up all the lovely butter and garlic!)

Well, if you like, I can send a couple of escargots your way! happy dance, happy dance Icon_biggrin they're only a bit smaller than the ones they serve in restaurants... Found a couple of them mating in my newly planted basil square yesterday night...glad I caught those on time!

they just keep on coming, it's really frustrating. Think one of the neighbours must be breeding them Smile

I thought I'd escaped the attack of the slugs until last night, when I found one bigger than my thumb on my Batavia! AAARGH!

So...a saucer of beer set into the square where the last of my lettuce is...

It's rained most of this week, so I couldn't put out the Bt, and the darned cutworms got the last of my green oak leaf. I still have one red oak leaf, but that's it. (I wonder if the eggs weren't in the soil when I got the starts...the oak leaf is all that's been chomped..and those are the only starts I bought!) So I replanted Batavia in the empty squares, and replanted canteloupe in the square that haven't come up!

And while I was out I noticed the tomatoes are starting to set blossoms, as are the green beans and the pumpkin...the cucumbers have sprouted, and I have little bitty watermelon starts....yippee.
