Please correct me if i'm wrong
o.k i may be well off filling my beds but i decided to get to working out what i need so here's my list if anyone could look it over and correct me if i,m wrong it would be good .so here we
go
bed sizes = 10 ft x 4 ft and i have 3 of them
based on these measurements i have 20 cubic feet per bed 10 x 4 x 1 / 2
to round up i,ll say 21 cf per bed meaning 7 cf of each item or 200 lt
so that works out as follows
600 lts vermiculte = 6 bags at 100 lts
600 lts peat moss = 6 bags at 100 lts
600 lts compost ,consisting of cow manure ,horse manure , chicken manure , worm compost , mushroom compost
i,ll buy compost at 3 x 40 lt bags to start for each type of compost which adds up to 600 lts total
o.k theres the plan ,theres the math ,but am i right lol cos it's a while since i did the whole volume thingy me bob . Any help on this would be greatfully recieved and please if i,ve wrote this out badly just ask me to explain

Colin, I went here for an automated conversion:
http://www.sciencemadesimple.net/volume.php
It says that 21 cubic feet (the volume of each of your boxes) is 594 litres --
So your number is correct for EACH box.
You'll need 600 litres of each of the three components...so yes, you ended up with the right number.

One caveat. I do not know how it comes packaged in the UK, but here peat moss is very compacted. When you open it and fluff it up it almost doubles in size. So, mathwise, that is a consideration. You may be able to get by with less peat than you figured.
Re: Please correct me if i'm wrong
No worries on that one, Chopper...the volume listed on peat is the *usable* volume, not the size of the bag.

I am so not a math major, but aren't his beds 40 square feet? Which would mean for cubic feet, you would calculate 4 X 10 X 150%?

Re: Please correct me if i'm wrong
no martha beds are only 6 inches deep so we divide result by 2
10 ft long x 4 ft wide x 1 ft deep = 40 / 2 = 20
10 ft long x 4 ft wide x 1 ft deep = 40 / 2 = 20

Yes they are. If we assume 6 inch depth (0.5 feet) that would be 40(0.5)=20 cfmartha wrote:I am so not a math major, but aren't his beds 40 square feet? ...

Cor! 18 quid for THREE bags! I've half a mind to take the EuroTunnel across and buy a carload!
I paid 11,50 Euros per bag this spring -- that works out to something like 10 pounds a bag!

Okay, then I feel better -- my vermiculite was a couple pounds' less than that one, so it all averages out!
