I read a lot of testimonials about how great Brandywine tomato is. It is not bad, but it doesn't even compare to the tastiest I grew: Polish linguisa. It is a paste tomato but it is so sweet, so tasty, refreshing, that I just eat it off the vine, in salads, on sandwiches. I like it best when the fruit is ripe and is warmed by sun. I've never made paste out of them - they are so good to eat raw. I like the fact that they are meaty and do not have too many seeds. They are very productive too.
What is your favorite tomato?

Champion has the best flavor of any I've tried.

My favorite often depends on what I have most recently eaten, but right now my two favorites (from last year) are sweet pea currant tomatoes and black cherry tomatoes.

I am going to try Brandywines again this year - I tried them once and wasn't impressed.

But where did you find the Polish Linquisa? It sounds yummy.

PS - do you folks have any idea how many tomato varieties I will have to grow next year? And I am blaming all of you - I refuse to take responsibility for the fact that I don't know when to stop!

Anything that will survive a South Carolina summer! But seriously, a few years ago we managed to keep a couple of German Johnsons healthy enough to live until the first frost. Their tomatoes didn't taste like much during the hot summer, but once the evenings cooled off and the plants began to set fruit again, the fall harvest was the tastiest we've ever had. They might do very well in a cooler clime.
