Garden on the go is ready - Page 2 Empty garden on the go update

Post  hayjude 6/28/2010, 11:03 am

Hi all, finally got internet , very slow so no pictures yet but just to let you know the garden is traveling well, the tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers seem to be growing really well and blooming but the radishes, lettuce and carrots have really slowed down. May be because these squares are moved inside the trailer when we travel so they don't get as much sun and the last few stops have had quite a bit of shade. We haven't had any trouble with watering when we stop and the garden doesn't dry out so that is good. Was sure glad we had the cover for the main part one night in North Carolina as a wind and rain storm came up suddenly and then hailed, I got wet going out to close the cover but only lost a couple leaves on the lettuce. Will try to upload pictures and more info as we go, now in Gettysburg,PA.

Garden on the go is ready - Page 2 Empty Love your box!!!

Post  GloriaG 6/28/2010, 12:53 pm

Hi hayjude,

I absolutely LOVE your box. So creative. We were RV's for years but have stopped for a while. This makes me want to get back on the road. We only live a couple of miles from Mc Clain's RV in Denton.

BTW - if you start having trouble with wind - you might try making a wind deflector like on the sunroof of cars. An angled piece of sheet metal with some end supports, that's fastened to your frame should do it. You could probably make it removable if you used wing nuts and lock washers. That way you'd only need to have it in place when you travel.

Good luck and awesome garden!

I'm following your travels with interest. I don't RV, but I love the idea of bringing your SFG along for the trip and spreading the word to others.
Good luck and enjoy your fresh crops.
