Still having problems with my cucumbers in my raised SFG. A week or so ago, leaves began wilting on some of the plants - days later the leaves would die - the rest of the plant looked fine - nice dark green leaves and lots of yellow flowers and small cucumbers. Now I have many unhealthy very small yellow colored cucumbers - and a few nice looking fast growing fairly large cucumbers. I followed all the SFG
rules and added some blood meal when the cucumber leaves became discolored, which really helped. Yesterday, the top 2 feet of one of my cucumbers was welted and seems to be dieing - today I cut it back to the healthy looking part of the vine. It is not lack of water - I water every day. At this stage I am guessing that I will wind up with a few decent cucuumbers but I am not happy especially with the effort and daily care I gave these cucumbers. My other stuff - tomatoes, bell peppers and egg plants are doing petty well. Of course, with temps in the high 90's flowers are drying and not producing fruit. Suggestions regarding my cucumbers? Too late put in new plants?

My suggestion if you are only watering once a day to bump it to twice a day at least 3 to 4 times a week. With the high heat and humidity we have in the south that extra water makes a big difference.

I'm in Mobile, Alabama so our temps are approximatly the same unless you are in the northern part of LA. I have cukes coming out my ears lately. Sorry to hear your having problems. If you were closer I'd share.

Have you noticed any evidence of squash vine borers? If everything else is fine and the plants are dying from the base outward, it could be borers. Look at the base of the plant and see if you notice what looks like a pile of sawdust. ... If you can, post some pics as that always helps.
