Hello from NW Florida :)
Hello everyone...I just started my square foot garden a few days ago and am excited that my tomatoes are actually growing bigger! I've tried gardening before, but with limited success. Your posts have been very helpful and I'm looking forward to seeing your gardens as summer progresses.
I live in zone 8a (in NW Florida close to the Alabama line), so I hope I'm posting in the right place

Welcome! I am from up North, but I wished to say hello, and tell you that, for me, I learn from my regional forum, but also from all over the country. There are certainly some things that are regional specific.
So, I'm sure all those Floridians will wake up tomorrow and check in here...lazy ole' things!

Thanks for the welcome...it's late here now (time for bed!) but I'm sure I'll hear from others tomorrow.

Re: Hello from NW Florida :)
Welcome :-D This is our first year as SFGers. We are in Zone 8 here in lower southwest Mississippi. I love where I live because of the weather, well thats one of the reasons, a big one. Ive row gardened the two previous years, with little success. I did have a few things that grew well and I called them my encouragement plants, they kept me from leaving behind gardening all together. Then !! in early March I found Mel's book. I was hooked in the first few minutes of reading the intro I think. We now have 3 4'x8' beds, two 1'x8' beds, we plan for more boxes in the next couple of weeks, two of our sons want boxes!!
Share with us your before and after pics too:)
Here is one of my boxes, I used a store bought soil, I was having a
hard time finding my ingredients at that point. (That's all fixed now
though). I did buy transplants as well as started things from seeds.
This is my first box with some of the transplants I started with. I was
also given some plants my neighbor started from seed. This picture was taken near the end of April.

Here is the same box taken May 23rd. With a trellis system we chose because I have 9 squares with things that need to be trellised. My planning is better now, I do have a box that Ive dedicated to peppers sweet, hot and tomatoes.

The weeds surround the box are now gone, I should have taken a pic of that
My son took them out for me yesterday.
Welcome to the forum and good times in the garden to you

Re: Hello from NW Florida :)
Thanks, Ha-v-v.
Your garden looks nice. I'll be planting two more 4x6 boxes this afternoon...so it'll be a while before I have much of anything to take a picture of! I'm getting a late start but will hopefully have something to show for it all in a few weeks.
I've lived pretty much all my life in NW FL (in zone 8a) and love the weather here, too, even with the hot and humid summers. At least our winters are usually fairly mild...I'm actually going to try gardening through winter this year....I've been reading a lot but still have a lot to learn about it.
And this square-foot gardening must be contagious...I haven't even harvested anything yet and I already have four people who are now interested and are going to read Mel's book!
