trellis netting square size
Hi
Hopefully this will be an easy question
First year with SFG. I want to make a nylon trellis for cukes, etc. The instructions in the 3rd edition of the book look easy enough.
What I can't seem to find is the size of the square in the netting. I have seen 3.5" sold and 6" sold. It looks like in the pictures it should be 6" square but want to make sure before I purchase.

The reason you can't find it, is because it is is your choice. The 6"x6" is best for large vegetables such a cucumbers, but the 3.5"x3.5" is best for smaller vegetables such as peas. I personally prefer the 6" square for everything.

Don't sweat it. One of the first versions of the SFG book showed how you could grow vertically by only using vertical strings for the trellis (except for one horizontal string at the bottom). I remember doing this back in the 90's and having to periodically twist my tomato vines around the string. It worked. But the square nettings are now commercially available and easier to use.

After our first year's experience with pole beans and cukes, vines, I rather thought I would add a little string from front of square back to trellis at a slope so I might not have to hand train the seedlings to reach the trellis as they come up. Is this a good or bad idea?
