tomato plant roots
Started to pull out the tomato plants and noticed that there is not that great a root structure. When I plant I bury about 2/3 of the plant as I have done for years. Seems in years past when I pulled the plant out the root ball was much larger and lots of stringers. Not so this year. Any ideas? Lack of nutrients, not watering enough or deep enough, something else?

My experience when plants don't develop a good root structure it was because there was too much nutrient or too much water too close to the surface, and the plant did not have to develop roots to reach for nutrients or water.

Re: tomato plant roots
not as good as I would have hoped. Eventually I got a bunch of cherries but the larger tomatoes were few and far between and really did not ripen. Also had to fight off the chipmunks, squirrels and a groundhog.sanderson wrote:How did the actual tomato plants do?
