converting non sqrftg plans to square foot.
Has anyone tried converting none square foot garden plans to square foot.
there are a lot posts on converting the garden soil, beds and walk
ways to square gardening. but I have not seen any post sand
I might missed those post. I am thinking of diagrams and other
paper based garden plans that were created in newspapers, books and
pamphlets created before square foot gardening was invent. the conversion
should keep the general character of garden plan and plantings but
add the improvements the square foot garden does to a vegetable garden.

I am not sure what the concern is regarding "converting" the plans from conventional gardening to SFG. The only difference in the two methods of gardening is the raised beds and the soilless Mel's Mix used in the SFG method. Any garden plan, regardless of how creative or decorative, can be established using Mel's Mix instead of garden soil.

not to sound rude but you seem forgotten the fact that spacing of plants is so much more
efficient in square foot gardening some of those old garden plans. use some really unique
ways to spacing and arranging plants, let alone determine how many plants you are dealing
with. one example I converted to square foot took a day just find the info about how many
seeds planted corn in hills. Some graphic of formats make morse code look simple.

Sorry to report that I have not forgotten about spacing at all. Over the past 6 decades I have done all types of farming and gardening, including market gardening. It was a very easy process for me to "learn" the spacing for SFG since the charts provide in the books & web site are very clear on seed/plant spacing.

the spacing problem not from the square foot method
in converting the historic garden plans. it is from the
original garden plans many of plans have confusing spacing
and plant placement. as shade and group planning mistakes.
and confusing bed orentaintions., I will post few next so you
will understand
