End of Season Question
I have about 20 grow bags that I estimate to have around 25 cu.ft of soil in them. I plan to dump the soil into some totes at the end of season and I would like to know if I should mix in compost while I'm emptying the bags into the totes or wait until spring to mix in the compost? I think mixing it in as I empty the grow bags will be physically easier for me (77 years old) and one less thing to do in the spring. Also, I plan to cover the totes with black plastic for the winter.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: End of Season Question
Frank, Spring or fall, your choice. I like to clean and amend in the fall so the beds are ready in the spring. I'm also aware that at 73, something could happen during the winter that would make it hard to do the heavy lifting in the spring, so I want the beds ready for my starts and seeds. For each bag, top with composts plus a bit more. Mix in. I don't think you have to dump the bags into totes for winter unless they would break down. Just amend the bags and cover to keep out the weed seeds.
